Thanks all and thanks for the advice Kat. Your definitely right about the water calming the scene rather than adding to the tension. The main adversary in the diorama is not meant to be the tentacled creature though (although I can completely see where you're coming from) I meant for the villain to be 'off cam' hopefully leaving it up to the viewer to imagine what would be so awful that the Demonologist had to conjure this massive war demon. The tentacle was kind of an after thought as I had loads of milliput left after filling some gaps and I thought I'd practice my sculpting ??????

some more progress tonight. I blutac'd the diorama together to get a better idea of the whole piece and I've started on one of the zombies (which still needs brighter highlights) but I'm pretty happy with where it's going so far.

Oh and "mold line alert" ;)
Bo****ks! I reckon my eyes are going as I went over these guys soooo many times looking for mold lines and I was sure I got them all. The second I primed them, there they all are mocking me! I think the ones in the photo are much worse on the screen because looking at the figure now I'll be buggered if I can see them and I'm fine with that (really I am, it's not bothering me at all:curse!::curse!::curse!::curse!:)

as for the palette I have no idea as to amounts but for the base I used good old African shadow from scale 75 with GW nurgling green and a tip of model air fire red. Then more of the nurgling green mixed in for the midtones bringing it up to near 100% through a ton of very thin layers. I then added some GW Ushabti bone for the upper midtones highlighting up to pallid Wych flesh with a tip of the nurgling green (I now officially hate auto text and GW paint names!) I now will go in and glaze in more of the Wych flesh and some dark sea blue for the shadows. Hopefully this will really make the contrast pop.

@ Trystan I'm actually finding painting a few things its helping me keep focused. If I get stuck or bored I move onto something else.

@ Diggs & Ark thanks guys really great to know that I'm on the right track, that also really helps me pushing forwards.

@ WGS I think I'll probably leave it as it is for numbers as there's already loads to do, why do you think it needs more?

I would probably, add a couple close to war scrambling over each other to get at the warrior to add a level of contact between the principle character and his antagonists
