Nothing wrong with experimenting, the deeper you pour the resin the more contraction you'll get so can pull away from the edges, so better to go with small pours and more layers. This also means you can lessen the amount of colour in the upper layers, so items nearer the surface are more visible and less so the deeper you get, which can give the illusion of greater depth than you've actually poured

Water is fantastic, I love it. You have done an incredible job with this. The colour of the water, the ripples, it's just so damn realistic. How I strive for this.
sorry to keep bugging you on this but is that hawk turquoise you've used as the colour ?
I want to do a water piece at some point and this sort of level is what I'm aiming for.

WOW so many nice posts. Thanks everyone I really, really appreciate all of you wonderful comments :smile-big:

Mariano - go for it dude. A water effect pool will look smashing on your base (which is completely badass by the way)

WGS - I kind of went at this like a bull in a china shop. Had it not have been for Zab I probably wouldn't have done a test!! Next time I'll follow your advice and do a few pour as i like the sound of the added depth (and it not turning into a horrid, cracked pile of crap)

mrJim - thanks mate I appreciate it. I don't get a lot of hobby time so I'm still pretty green. I was a little worried I was posting too many steps and photos in my WIP. As I say I'm still pretty new to this so thought I'd document each part as I tackle it.

Kbear - thanks man. Did those Mierce kick starter stuff ever turn up? Have you got around to putting them together yet?

Gandalf - thanks dude. To be fair mate When I look through your WIP I'm amazed at your speed and quality. I wish I could produce a decent figure in 2 hours I'm soooooooooo slow. I've only managed to paint 3 complete minis in the last 2 years!
I think I've had a very large dose of beginners luck with the resin if I'm total honest. It seemed very easy to use and the ripples where a happy accident. As for the colour, I used a mix of green and blue translucent resin pigment from the same company I got the resin from. The tint was very, very subtle as I got most of the effect I wanted through prepainting the base. I just tried to keep in mind the colour change that the resin tint would give the pool.

Moetle - thanks buddy. Still a little way off. I've got to finish up a few things on the beasty. Paint the arms, legs and re-highlight the face of the sorcerer. Redo shadows and correct any final highlights to harmonise the entire diorama and then integrate the minis into the base a little more (they're kind of hovering on their pins at the moment)

Diggs - oh stop it you're making me blush :good:

ok ok no more on the base tonight but I did do a tiny wee bit more to War's test head and I quiet like how it's going.

Its stupidly late late here so I'm off to bed

I recieved another delivery a couple weeks ago. It looks like i have everything from their second KS I backed (Darklands?) and a few from the Beasts and the Mounts KS. As you get them you need to check all the pieces as i was missing most of therider on the mounted bear i ordered---funny thing is that they sent me the wrong replacement parts with the last delivery and their response is hilarious. I have started cleaning up a few to start assembly. In general the fits looks excellent. I pribably willnot start painting any until i have time to paint on a regular basis...they are too nice for my currently declining skill...i am shooting for 2016;)

btw, the face is coming out great. Very dramatic so far.

Kbear - I made a huge effort to rain in my spending on Mierce kickstarters even though I've gone all in for the Jutes and I'm considering getting the weird bog monster. Still I was pretty proud of myself for resisting the mini spending urge....and then I saw the Black sailors kickstarter and I'm now down by about £400! So worth it though

gandalf - yeah two different photos at 2 different times of day. The first was in glorious sunshine and the second was this morning at 2:30am under my light setup. IRL he's kind of a mix of the 2. My iPhone hates taking photos of him though as he's so small.

Ter - I can see the Palpatine resemblance which is great as that's exactly what I'm after. I'm basing it on the below image

WGS - thanks man. I do want to try and have a hint of the eyes shining through and the rest of the face is painted in (all be it subtlety) but I won't be pushing the contrasts my further.

Coyote - thanks dude. I think it needs a few glazes of a red flesh tone to warm it up and smooth out the blends but it's getting there.

thingy the everchosen should be arriving next week so I'll get to see if the new head and if it looks any good! Quick question, should War be fighting skeletons or zombies?

Cheers

So Archaon turned up today. It's my first experience with finecast and while not great it's also not that bad. Quiet a bit of flash and a few holes. It fit together pretty well but will require some gapfilling.

The sculpt is really dynamic and will definitely serve as a good base for War and Ruin.

I didn't like the boney spurs sticking out of the mount so I've cut them all off and tried to smooth it all into the muscle (which a reasonable amount of success) The existing sword is nice but War's sword Chaos Eater is faaaaar better so I'll be swapping that out. Also the shield hand gauntlet is nowhere near big enough so that will get swapped out to.

Now I've got to engrave some runes into the horses skin, tie the new head into the body and sculpt War's flowing locks. He'll now be my entry into the Gods and Monsters comp. hopefully it won't matter that I started his head?

Heres a quick shot of him so far.

Getting back into the swing of things after my holiday has been tough but I got a bit of modelling time in last night. Working on War's base (very much a work in progress), cloak and Ruin's lava runes.

Thanks dude. The carving is really fiddly and I have no idea if some of it's to small for me to paint but I really like how it looks so far. Not sure as to the details of the base yet. I'm torn between a abandoned grave yard with a few emerging undead and some other little details to full on king of the hill (inspired but 10's green knight and the below pic)
