The bricks look marvelous! No ideas on the mortar I'm afraid - although I would imagine that something like polyfilla would be an option.

Thanks guys. I'm going to attempt to use modelmates brick joint filler for the mortar. It arrived 2 days after I ordered it and the lovely guys even threw in a free pot of slate grey weathering liquid and a hand written note! Fantastic service.

christmas parties are still taking up most of my days at the moment but I have had a chance to work for a few hours tonight and I reckon I'm nearly done on the inside now. I've been trying to work in different subtle, wood colours on the floorboards and an old, faded wallpaper. The whole look I'm after is damp, old and well used.

my only concern is that it's all a little.....brown

thoughts?

Everything about this project is terrific, from the original conception to the outstanding base to the great paintwork. Take a bow!
I've never tried this technique for this application myself, but I wonder if a light grey or tan enamel wash could fill your mortar gaps? I'd gloss coat the surface to ensure that it doesn't sink into the wood pieces, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

What about introducing a little paint splatter on the floor? You could also add a little colour to the walls behind the yellowing paper. Old house walls in my country, were filled with pale blue/green gesso so when you tear the paper off you found that colour all over the place.

Argh, No I must not listen! It was always my intention to do freehand wallpaper but I'm limited on time and I'm terrified I'll bugger it up. Last night i finally defeated the voice in my head, the one that wants me to paint an overly complicated Georgian design over a very uneven, hard to reach surface. Sense had won out and I was happy. Then Demi started egging me on and the little voice started again. As of this moment it's now a deafening bellow.......thanks a lot guys

Just keep it simple. Like a few fertile lines and a row of dots between them. Use some of the darker brown / orange from the painting for the color, so it doesn't overwellms the scene.

Looks very cool btw. Also instead of paint splatter, maybe add a water bucket to clean his brush on with paint splattered on the sides of it.

I think it looks lovely. Agree that a bit of pale blue/green with pink flowers would really lift it from great to awesome.

You could make your life a bit easier by painting a piece of paper first, then cutting it into sections and pasting the walls and adding glazes of shading/stains etc at the end. I know that's annoying advice to get now, but it would be more manageable than trying to paint a pattern on the existing walls...

Also just going to mention a little bit of a scaling problem (and something I suffer with on my bases) - the skirting around the room is almost waist high on your painter. I know he's a dwarf, but if you cut the skirting in half length and height-wise it will be much closer in scale.

(Sorry, I'll stop now.)

Ok wallpaper done HAPPY NOW :smile-big:

As KBear suggested I've tried to do something simple, whilst still hopefully visually interesting. I was contemplating sculpting a paint tube to spice up the base but then I remembered I had some odds and sods in my bits box (also that deadline is looming and rather not start anything else) I'll add another wine cup on the floor and a candle on the window sill (which should help the scale issue as well as the room will have size comparisons, thanks dazzler)

That's very nice. Good work. Always listen to the voices. They speak the truth.

PS- I know you are all against me -_-
