loving those facial details and the base so far tim. you're really doing the original illustration justice here mate. the only comment i can make is for your base. you may want to consider putting some sand/small stones on those latter areas of the cork around the edge of the base. it's looking a tad jarring and unnatural compared to the top.

Thanks Claire, I should have said that I still needed to the edges and underside of the base as well. Although they will be more rough and ragged as it's intended to look like its underground

Thanks Gino, Joce and Hairster. No more painting for me until Sunday now :( im loving this guy and can't wait to get back to him

Time constraints have limited my forum posting lately, but I always love to check my phone for updates to this project when I have free minute. Your painting is just stupendous and captures the feeling of Paul Bonner's awesome work perfectly.
In my opinion, the excellent start to your short term base looks visually unbalanced. My eye wants something, a bit of mass maybe or just a bit of stuff (bush? rock? something more specific like a pile of bones leftover from the ogre's last meal?). I like the drama of the exaggerated overhang and the impetus it lends to the ogre's pose & glare, but I think the current composition moves the central action too far from the actual base. Just a thought, man. It looks amazing!

Wow, that's an incredibly impressive paint-job on that guy alone. I just love that red to blue transition on the face. When you get them all together on the base this will be amazing...

And relax......

another stupidly busy weekend at work but I get to chillout for a few days and catch up!

thanks Saint, you're not wrong about the base. It is a little unbalanced at the moment, I do still need to put in the forground and middle ground rocks though and hopefully this will even it up a little more. If not I'll revisit.

cheers Johnboy and Khavor, I can't wait to see them altogether either :)

No painting today but I had a bit of insperation while my son was eating his dinner this afternoon. 5 mins later and this unholy union was born, I think it's got loads of potential!

Saw this guy on fb last night and he already looks awesome before you've even got any paint on him, do you have a plan for the weapon yet? I think the standard one is a tzeentch style staff iirc but I think a large axe or mace might suit him better with his new body

Strange and scary project here.... it's beautiful in it's terrifying aura... I like the axe approach. I can also see a trident there instead, just to give a distinctive point ;)

Cheers guys. I'm really happy with the big guy

@ Claire I'm just thinking of beating the axe up a little really (and sculpting a replacement for the blu-tac obviously :) ) I like the simplistic, brutal feel to it, kinda like a headsman's axe

@ Maenas I did think about a trident but I'm afraid my skills aren't up to the task :(

Updates -

tried my hand at Paul Bonner's MNN style and I'm pretty happy so far. I've also decided I'm going to keep the big base for the comp, I'll just have to include fewer figures.

This is means the big guy inherits the new base

C&C as always welcome :)
