Cheers Saint

I'm trying to go for a 'realistic' green hued flesh. Underneath the skin there's still red blood and muscle like you or me and in my head that would show through (that's my head cannon anyway :) )

Great work, Darthmarsh. Lots of really nice colors on the skin. That sort of variation is key to making a figure this size (or any size to be honest) look believable. Keep up the good work!

Everything on this bust looks great. Had to go back a bit to see how it developed, awesome work. The mask definitely looks like aged wood. How would the white fit in, like highlights or a stripe design like the bottom half of the mask?

Thanks Dazzler. I've not really thought about styles but that's exactly how I've been doing it. I guess it's kind of large scale stippling. Paint in texture, loaded brush highlights then knock everything back with glazes, repeat. I've painted lots of Orc's and goblins recently and I think it suits them :)

Thanx Nix. He's got nipples AND flappy, saggy skin folds. I just haven't got around to them yet. Looking foreword to it though as there's tons more detail

Hahaha Matt not all wingers then :)

Andy do you mean some light glazing or a slightly more obvious secondary pin light? I quite like the idea of a dramatic OSL (like Baileys and the below reference) but I'm not certain if it would ruin it? There's turquoise on Iggy and I was going to do blue on his tribal mask so it will help to tie them together. Hmmmmmmm
I'd just try some light glazes just to add some cool to the shadows to play of against the warmth of the reds you have to give it a bit of colour contrast but heck I wouldn't go mad as you say it might fubar it!

You're really rolling, my friend! The mask looks perfect: a once brilliant object grown a bit dilapidated over time.
I also buy your 'orcs bleed red, just like you and me' theory of skin coloration, and think you've captured the look of that perfectly.
This is really shaping up to be a special project!

Thanks Captain. The mask has been really fun to paint. My father in-law collects African masks so I had lots of reference :)

Thanks very much Dave. I have to admit that your WIP thread (among others here) is where I get a lot of my inspiration. Please keep on doing what you're doing so people like myself can shamelessly plagiarise you :)

Cheers Fluisterwood, firstly wonderful work on your Mierce troll. Your axe head has gone into my insperation folder. I've gone for painted strips on the mask you can't really see them properly in the photos but I think the mask needed the variation

Andy you're a legend. I (rather tentertivly) glazed in a turquoise and it looks much better in hand. I decided against the OSL in the end as I preferred the idea of the blooded hand and didn't think they'd work together. Does it need more or is it good as is?

Thanks Saint. Great to hear the wood looks realistic. I really want to ground this guy in reality.

Ok so it was painting Jam night tonight and I got lots done. Loincloth, blue glazes (thanks Andy) bloody hand and more on Iggy. I love this figure!

C&C as always welcome

Looks great tim you don't need to add vast amounts just enough to add interest and tie in with the other sections

Wow! Looking great! Definitely enjoying these efforts in a dramatically different direction from your recent, Bonner-y ogres & orcs. I'm not sure if you're still working on the face, but I'd add some of your red tones in there. I think those areas would be more veinous or whatever, like ours, on 'real' orcs.

I like it mate er maybe another tip yet again I don't wont to fubar what is an excellent piece so try very sparingly and see what you think in the slightly highlited areas (not the really bright areas more light midtone if you get my drift) try a thin glaze of orange sort of old gw blazing orange so sort of a slightly desaturated orange. It ads a bit of tension see what I mean on my cyclops on his belly. Don't lynch me if it don't work.

Cheers Saint. Nice idea with the reds to the face. I'll get a little more painted to I can get a better overal view of the colour situation and then go in a tweek. I was chatting about style with someone the other day. I'm trying to stay away from similar paint jobs at the minute. Push myself to explore diffent techniques and colour applications. That and every model seems to just end up......different.

Cheers Canny :)

Thanks Andy I promise I won't lynch you. The Blue was your idea and I think it worked really well. I'll have a look through my paints and see if I have that tone orange. Wish me luck :)

finished with the blue and I'm very happy. Now onto the staff
