Frankly I couldn\'t care less about what smokers do to their own bodies but I do object to having a quiet drink in a pub and finding that my clothes stink of smoke when I get home...

Aye, there\'s the rub. Your right to swing your fist ends at my nose, as it were... Anyway, here\'s a song for you smokers out there in radioland tonight, \"I Smoke a Lot\" by Belgian rockers K\'s Choice:

I smoke a lot
I\'m not talking weed or pot
I smoke the regular stuff
I smoke a lot
And if you\'re a smoker too
You are to know sometimes it\'s tough
To be in healthy company
People who always say
You smoke a lot
Imagine the amount of money you could save if you\'d quit
You smoke a lot
By now you\'d have a bike, aren\'t you concerned about the kids
Well, of course, sure I am, concerned (a bit)
But about that bike, I could get killed with it
And is that what you really want
(It\'s not)

So I smoke a lot
I smoke a lot
My God I smoke a lot, and I feel fine
And I feel fine
I smoke a lot

I smoke a lot
I smoke a lot
I smoke a lot
I smoke a lot
Sometimes it\'s great
Sometimes it\'s not
But I smoke a lot
I smoke a lot
I smoke a lot
I smoke a lot

That song would have been a lot better if the singer had started coughing about halfway through and then coughed out a lung and died at the end.

:|~

Sorry...watched my father die because he made a stupid decision to smoke...so I tend to be a little harsh in my opinions on it...

I mean, if you\'ve made the choice to smoke, have at it...far be it from me to tell you what to do with your body...but keep your distance. I prefer not to smell like Denis Leary\'s freakin\' index finger...and I kinda like my lungs, since they let me breathe...so...yeah.

Well Darth...I watched my father die because he drank...And drinking seems to be pretty ok with everyone, and has probably killed more people through drunk driving than second hand smoke.

Check out your local paper some time and see how many multiple offenders there are.

Oh, I\'m well aware of alcohol\'s wonderful \'second hand\' effects - though I\'m not 100% sure of the statistics. All comes down to money - gov\'t makes big money off cigs and booze, so no problems. When they can\'t make money off a drug, that\'s when they make it illegal. ;)

the truth...

That is what I find so damn hypocritical.

The government repeatedly warns, raises taxes, allows lawsuits against smoking, yet they still claim it is legal.

One way or the other. Either leave it alone, or make it illegal and be done with it.

on second thought....they did that for booze once, and I guess it didn\'t turn out so well....lol

Could you imagine the wrath of millions of smokers Nic fitting? My god the the uprising that would ensue would make the LA riots look like sunday school.

That would be some kinda carnage. Three buddies of mine at work all tried to quit together, y\'know, to \'be strong and help each other out\'. They lasted three hours before they were all fiending so much they looked like the crawlies in Dawn of the Dead.... ;)

Evil Dave,
Did you make it through the weekend?

Just think that the cost of a pack of smokes could be turned into 1 or 2 more pieces of lead to paint. \"Don\'t want the cig, want the reaper.\" (feel free to substitute your brand)

Hang in there. It ain\'t easy, but it is worth it. Honest. Today is my 6 months clean. I think I will go celibrate. Maybe a dragon.lol

Serious, get to the doc and get some wellbutrin. They make it bearable.

Quiting with the patch - 25% success
Quiting with wellbutrin - 25%
Combining the patch with wellbutrin - 50%

Support group adds another 10-25% ( I had half a church praying for my success )

My personal opinion on the subject is if you want to you should (Even if I am extremely allergic to it, I can always walk away). AS for illegal narcotics, I don\'t find any reason why they should be illegal at all. If you want to use them, that\'s your buisness. Last time I checked there wasn\'t any second hand smoke from coke.

Instead of them being illegal, I just think that there should be harsher penalties on things much like there is with alcohol. I don\'t see why you can\'t be strung out on your bed when you can be plastered beyond all belief. But that might just be me. :flip::bouncy:

I\'ve smoked cigarettes since I was 14. Even then I knew they were bad for me. QUit for 8 years - went right back.

Prefferred pipe tobacco - Maple/vanilla or honey-cured/vanilla. Hate cherry blends. They bite my tongue.

I thorouhly understand the rights of non-smokers and would never smoke in a restaurant, in a non-smokers car or house, etc. I used to smoke outside at my own house.

What I object to in the nonsmoking crusade: People should have no right to sue the tobacco companies, at leasst no one my age or younger. I\'ve always known cigarettes were not health food and I chose to smoke. No one from a cigarette company ever shoved one in my mouth. Yes, tehre were ads touting cigarettes, but there were ads also telling me smoking was no good. Should I be able to sue the American Cancer Society for an ineffective ad campaign ???

If you are going to argue against smoking, please know what the hell you are talking about. Most of the studies on the effects of second hand smoke are utterly bogus. They weren\'t science, they were politics. They started with the conclusion and then kept searching until they found a methodology that would \"prove it\" - ass backwards!

Thirdly, DON\"T LIE!!!!! NYS recently banned smoking in all indoor public places. One of their strong arguements wass that there was an amazingly pent up desire out there by nonsmokers to go to bars and that bannign smoking would be an amazing boob to those businesses. Since the ban, most bars around here have reported 17 -75% DECREASE in business! IF there was such a pent up demand, why weren\'t there already highly successful No Smoking bars ???

Sorry to rant but I\'m sick and tired of all the social do-gooders that arent\' satisfied with living THEIR life the way they want, but are convinced that I should live MY life the way THEY want :flame:

S long as I don\'t get behind the wheel, my having a drink doesn\'t effect you. If you don\'t go to bars, my smoking there doesn\'t effect you. If you don\'t break in to my house, my owning a gun won\'t hurt you. My eating fast foods won\'t make you fatter. Me (alright: my female friend/companiondaughter/wife/etc) having an abortion doesn\'t effect you. IF I choose to marry a man, it doesn\'t effect you!

I will make everyone a promise: If you stay out of my life and let me live as I want without harming anyone, I\'ll stay the hell out of yours.
