Too old to play Warhammer?

Hi,
I\'ve just had my 30th birthday recently and I think I\'m having one of those quarter life crisis ha, ha...

I\'ve been painting, collecting & playing Warhammer and 40,000 since I was 16. But now I\'m getting slightly down thinking that i may be too old to play the game especially as GW is so focused on young bloods. There\'re plenty of twenty-somethings\' playing but I don\'t see many older chaps/family guys coming back to the table top once they\'ve settled down.

I guess my main concern is that I don\'t want to be the only sad old git around the table playing against only people that weren\'t even born when Thundercats and Star Trek TNG first aired.

If you are out there can you help restore my faith that Warhammer can be for life and not just for kiddies tee, hee?

There are lots of older players. You just need to find a store that caters to them, or something. Maybe put an ad in the locals....

Huh you\'re just an anklebiter.......53 in January and still playing 40k and learning Warhamster.
And there are older players at my local store (not many I\'ll admit)

Dude, 30 is way too old. You need to start playing an old fuddy\'s wargame, perhaps something WW2 or US Civil War related, with badly-painted toy soldiers. Make sure you buy magazines with agonizingly detailed and dry articles about what kind of pouches people wore at Gettysburg and things like that.

I don\'t know if you\'ve tried this, but maybe you\'d find more \"mature\" players in the non-GW game shops? You know, the ones where they sell stuff other than GW.

(Don\'t say that 30 is too old... :~( I\'m only two years off it myself!)

I\'ll be.... that age next year and there are plenty of people my age and older that play. If there aren\'t enough older players in your local GW try asking if there are any gaming clubs in your local area. Many older players can\'t make it down to the store to play because they have these job things and can\'t get there during opening hours. Living in London I\'m willing to bet that there are a fair few clubs about.

Totally agree! Start with Flames of War, similar rules and quite good game. Then do Warhammer historical and find them \"too historically incorrect\".. then it\'s just a question of slowly drying out all your imagination... Good luck!

I love FoW, but I am 32 and a great chunk of our club is in the late twenties to mid forties range for Warhammer. I find more of the younger players are interested in 40k around here.

Dude I have seen people that are way into their late 60\'s that play at the store I go to. To them you are just a teenie bopper! Do not let your age effect your perception of the hobby. You are never to old to pick up a mini and place in the best position to wreak havoc on your opponent. Unless you have arthritis... in that case you may want to play a little less.

I think scottrandom has it right. Seems like kids like 40k. Adults tend to like fantasy more so you may want to play that. It has always been my game of choice because playing with kids that try to cheat when you are not looking is annoying, and it is just an awesome game.

I need to paly warhammer. Thinking about it is getting me giddy. I have not played a fantasy game in years Not since the new rule book came out

Been playing rpgs and mini games since I was 8 and still playing now that I\'m 33. I do agree with the suggestions to try a non-GW Games Store if one is arround. I never play at our local GW, but I play at our FLGS Hugin and Munin every other week if not more frequent. I\'m actually the youngest player in our current game. Actually that\'s not quite true, my wife just joined and she\'s a two months younger then I. Still the other players are older then us.

Edit: and you aren\'t an old Wargamer until you start talking about the benefits of Corner Clipping.

Bah, I actually pretty much stopped playing most of the games years and years ago. It\'s not that I felt to old for the games but rather to old for most of the players (sorry to all who might be offended) who started getting on my nerves once I had a wife, mortgage, and kids of my own.

Far from too old. As long as you can shut up about how ubar Space Marines are and how cool GW is for their latest release when you\'re around people who don\'t game anyway.

I\'d suggest looking in the non-GW stores as others suggested. There must be local groups and websites in London (England/Ontario?) you could join and find some old fogies like us. I\'m early 30\'s myself. Ask the owners about gaming groups at any of the stores with gaming areas, alot will have message boards too, posted somewhere in the back of the store, with info.

A beer goes well with a friendly game of some sort of table top war. Kids are not allowed to know this joy, be thankful of your seniority.

To old? There are lot\'s of us over 30, I\'m 39 next month have been playing rpg\'s since 1977 and proud to still be involved in the scene. Just putting together my first 40K army (orks) so I can trash my boys
