Toothpicks are great

Yesterday at the grocery market buying weekend food for the family I happened upon a tray of household nonfoods. One of them being toothpicks. In a comic I would have had a lightbulb over my head in that moment because I had this great idea:

\"Use a toothpick to stir paint and thinner on the pallette instead of the old brush that I used to use. Its cheap and discardable, no rinsing needed\"

Today I tried it out and it works like a spell. Stir and discard, no paint in the rag, no muddying of the waterjar. I even think one could use them more than once (important for misers like me) because the adherring paint is completely dried out after a few hours so it won\'t mix when stirring a new batch.
I\'m very happy with this and would like to share.

P.S. For all the expert painters on this site who know all the tricks, this may be old news. Sorry.

And a tip I learned off Ritual, superglue little sections of fine grit wet and dry to them to get into all the nooks and crannies when prepping a model.

I also have a dull exacto blade with a bit of wet and dry glued to it. Makes me able to get into even tighter spots. :)

I paint my thumb.
Toothpicks are useful for mixing paint, for preparation, for sculpting they help a lot too, handy if you eat chips while painting, I stick one in the back of horses and other mounts, for holding, moving around and resting my fingers without touching. They can be the right size for some things that you sculpt, and you can use them to stick them in the eyes of evil rodents that try to invade your workspace and drive them off. Yup they\'re great :D

I just counted that I´ve used more than 2500 toothpicks for sculpting and mixing paints. They are just great.

I also had a brainwave earlier today about using the clear plastic cases they come in for temporarily covering display pieces ...

Haven\'t tried it yet though

I remember one sunday at work, it was just after xmas so it was really quiet, so we built a reanactment of the siege of Troy with small marshmallows, toast and cocktail sticks. Great fun that, though im not surprised we all got bollocked for it.

Sanjuro Kuwabatake in Yojimbo agrees - toothpicks are great, and the ultimate fashion accessory too!
