Top Last 7 Days this week...

Another observation is with the rise in popularity of Web 2.0 and Social Networking like Facebook, Twitter and Personal blogs, its easy for a person to develop a large following of fans who may not be regular CMON members and voters but when that person makes a post with go vote for my figure..we get a bum rush of unregistered voters giving high scores as that\'s what you do for your friends.. and the end result we see the unusual unregistered vote early but amazing enough give time of a few weeks those score usually settle out to where they should be.

Does this account for sniping? no probably not but I do think it can account for an unusual high number of early votes.

In my opinion the only way to control it is only allow one vote to registered members and that\'s it..

Sigh. If I was a better more centered person I wouldn\'t care about votes and such but the ideal of what the vote4s should represent have been, and I hope continue to be, a great way to have your skills graded as they develop.

I\'m just to competitive to be able to have a chance for my work to be scored, good or bad, and not take it. There have been some irregularites, and I\'ll admit I did a bad thing by even boosting the vote on my own fig once (I was getting marks below the 5 range on a piece that finished at about 7 and I reacted.... poorly). I think I may too have to give up on concentrating on the scoring system.

I won\'t stop carpet bombing the submission forum and I will continue to post, I just have to train my brain to put more distance between it an dmy heart when it comes to scores. It\'s tougher then it sounds!

I\'m just curious why \"eastern europe\" is getting all the blame...

Haven\'t we already blamed them for stealing our jobs, having very pretty women, funny named food and driving badly?

I\'m all for sweeping statements but I don\'t see eastern europe as a problem any more than I see sun spots as a problem.

I just felt uneasy with 250,000,000+ people being blamed for rigged voting. lol

It happens on pretty much every review site on the internet though. Whenever someone has a strong preference, the truth is sacrificed.

There is no patch or hotfix for humans being arseholes unfortunately.

I\'m sure it\'ll blow over in a year or so.

Well then if anything suddenly gets 250,000,000+ votes of 10 we\'ll know who\'s responsible won\'t we lol

one thing I\'e noticed is a lot of us have a good old moan about the scores but how many of us actually bite the bullet and put comments on the work with what we feel is the right score???
sometimes the string of fanboy and friend .comments that appear early on on pieces can influence the voting thereafter.
Alot of the peoplewho have rigged scores don\'t have the backbone for an argument and more often than not pack up their toys and go.. The more that these pieces are highlighted and commented truly by members in the galleries and not just in the forms the less the potential sales advantage is for them so lowertemptation to do it meaning they start sticking to mid range numbers to avoid attentions..

who know\'s but looking through I have seen lot\'s of forum posters complaining but no comments with more suitable scores on the pieces..
just an observation.....

Well I think it makes a little sense DH. Not like those East Europeaners!lol

Comments are a treasure. Informative ones even more so. I know I fall into the boat of someone who looks at a current score of mine and feels very dissapointed, and then a couple submissions later I can look back and typically agree with the scores, comments and everything once there is a little distance from myself and the fig. It\'s not my brand new toy anymore.

Or maybe I\'m just catching the ramble-itis too.

Well now.... in the spirit of this thread about vote rigging and such; I posted my latest mini on here yesterday and checked it just now and saw that so far I have had 2 votes ( one of which is obviously mine). I simple bit of maths and I can work out what the second vote was....

anyone want to hazard a guess at what it was.....

If you said a 1 then you are correctlol

It has now gone past the point where I think about having a rant, it is now becoming laughable.

The sad thing about all these issues with the votes is that there will be some people who do get really hacked off and stop posting new images of their work on this site, and that would be a loss for eveyone. OK not everyone is going to post a great model but sometimes even if it hasn\'t been painted to a high standard they might still have hit upon a colour scheme or an idea that can be borrowed and improved upon.

Some points

As said there is a definite issue and there is some detective work going on. While our resources to look into the votes are very limited we will do our best to uphold the integrity of the voting system.

1) I think inflated scores are a bigger problem then sniping as the votes from snipers seem to get sorted out after a while. Not always, mind you but more often then inflated scores, probably because the skewness of the vote-distribution towards higher votes. Also some that post there scores to friends first will naturally get lowered scores once the general public sees it. The sniping is not seldom done in a \"self-correcting\" manner in that obviously overblown scores are sniped down to more reasonable numbers.

2) The registered users score are of course more true, and that it is most often lower then the general publics again speaks for that sniping is not as big of a problem as some say it is.

3) More submissions will be removed in the future, sometimes voluntary and sometimes not. The unfortunate downside of this is that you get to see less wellpainted miniatures. The upside is restoring some credibility to the system.

4) Don\'t give up on the voting, it reflects our collective opinion and can be afffected as such if we all vote. The more you vote, the less sniping/cheating will seriously influence the scores. And if you see irregularities, please comment on it or PM us mods. Name and shame is often very effective.

Im sorry but yall need to chill, you people act like little girls about this stuff!, (meby you are i just dont know you) but seriously if you are worrying about other people getting scores that aren\'t right then you have NO life. its different if you don\'t agree with a score, but if you don\'t agree with this site then don\'t spend your life here leaving 1000s of posts!

Because there are great things about this site, like the ability to ask questions of the amazing painters in the world. the part i never likes was when people bitched about what SCORE they got! i mean whooo CAAARES. Especially somebody else\'s i mean comon get real

Of course we have a life, but we also have a hobby! ;) As this site is not merely a gallery, voting is an integral part of this site, and as such it is important though it is flawed. If we can make it better, attract more posters/comments/votes that would be great!

And the comments about acting like girls I think the female part of this forum might have a surprise for you in the cellars of the freak-bar... ;)

I wasn\'t referring to you at all Sven, I dont see you complaining about what other people are getting on their minis. you see, i have no problem when people are worrying about THier scores, but its when people are really fussy about what other people are getting on their minis, especially when they go out thier and say they are straight up cheating, so be it and we all know what the score should actually be, so thats really what matters. people have their opinions, i dont care what the score says, for example i will look at your model with that free hand, for me its a straight up 9.8 at the least, yes the score is what like a 9.4? i dont care or complain because i know what its worth and im sure other people do to. its just the scores are taken way to seriously here. the only people who have no life are the people looking at view to vote ratio to see if its perfect so that it means there is no cheating going on. Im sorry if my first comment was to general, i hope that clears things up :)

It\'s pretty freaking ridiculous how some people feel they have to cheat. Bunch of bastards they are.

I am not a programmer, but I a friend who is and a very good one at that. He said after I explained him the problem that it takes about whole 30 minutes for a trained coder to write a small script that will supply completely fake IP address perform act of voting and leave to repeat the process

A suggestion to mods - look for patterns in IPs. while it is possible to generate completely random IP that suggest some thinking ans sophistication; most likely you will have simpler version where all numbers but one in IP remain the same and that variable number cycles from 0 to 254
