As promised some WIP pictures of the Sorcerer. He's in a very early stage, I'm getting the torso to the right size, filling in around the legs etc. but he's got a great deal of potential so far. Here are the pictures.

cbs7Il.jpg
That's just a picture of all the bitz laid out over my table, the staff and his shoulder pads are already painted, Jon (my brother) has had this kit for awhile and never really done anything he liked with it.

3fnhAl.jpg
A picture of his base- I know it's not all that interesting but it certainly is going to add quite a bit of character to the model- the plan is to have him in a pose that looks like he's casting a spell (I might actually sculpt the spell into his palm... I haven't decided yet...) and so as he's casting the ground is reacting around him as chaos energy spills into the materium

64Guyl.jpg

7XVsFs.jpg
That's his casting hand- the chaos energy is supposed to be mutating it during the cast- it would go back to normal once the spell is finished. I just used a spawn hand and a terminator arm. The thing is going to be pointing straight out sideways from the torso. I don't know if you can picture that... fortunately...

7WqfQl.jpg
...with a judicious application of ticky tack I can beta the pose for you! Of course I managed to put at least four fingerprints on the still-drying green stuff and he looks a little lopsided but it gives you the gist.

I enjoy getting the opportunity to try my hand at Chaos true-scaling (which is kinda harder cause they're more decorate-y) without having to spend money. And when I offered to make Jon a true-scale sorcerer he was quite enthusiastic. It was a fair trade- he bought me Dawn of War 2: Chaos Rising :D

Looks great! I love dynamic poses!

That boar you linked to is amazing! Now I have fur to aspire to! :)

Glad you had fun and learned how to ski! I haven't been on the slopes in more than a decade! Rats... now I feel old! :)

I started a fluff scale dread. I've finished the front of the chasis and should hopefully have the upper body completed by early next week! Full Height will be 80-90mm. I'm beginning to think that I will not be able to come up with a 2000 point army list by September though... :-(

ooo sounds interesting! do you have a camera and a will to make a WIP thread? cause I'd love to see it. I'll probably end up doing one eventually, when I actually have some disposable cash. Although... I really like the Forge World one that they came out with...

I'm not sure how I feel about the wings... they seem pretty static compared to the rest of the model, I think I'll put the rest of it together before I make a final judgement.

Thoughts?

I see your point with the wings. How painful would it be to sweep them back? I'm not sure if I have a set of those to look at in the flesh...

I would be happy to try a WIP thread. I'm sad to say that I stink with the digital camera, plus the one I have doesn't zoom in great. I'll see what I can work out. :)

I need something to kick me back in gear. I hope to have a 2000 point army finished for a fall tournament.

DON'T ZOOM! IT'S A TRAP! You want to set your camera into "Macro mode" so that it will be able to focus close up. It's usually represented by a small flower-ish looking symbol, then you just get close enough for the camera to focus. Most cameras will focus if you hold the button down half way, and then once its focussed you push down the rest of the way. Its a great way to make sure your picture turns out the way you want it to. (you can actually move the camera once you've set the focus, I would take some pictures to show you what I mean but... I need the camera to take the pictures of the camera...)

Aanyway... The wings would be really really difficult to sweep back... I'll make up my mind for sure once I've gotten the rest of him together. I can't make any decision until then.

On a separate note- I finally did something about my wolf lord and it's gonna look great. I couldn't get the tack to stick for long enough to get a good picture and I couldn't get far enough tonight to really show it off anyway (there's a lot of GS reconstruction of the shoulder joints that needs to dry...) I remade the haft of the axe, replaced the hands, gave him a storm bolter, completely repositioned the arms, and removed the pointy bits on the sun on his left shoulder.

Tomorrow is Friday, and since I am a terrible college student I will probably finish up the Lord and put the Sorcerer's stomach together and make a first attempt at a spell being cast. What a party.

Can't wait to see the revised Lord! Being a slacker is almost a college requirement... as long as you don't slack too awful much!

Made a little progress on the dread tonight. (I'm using the land raider engine for him.) I'll try to figure out the camera over the weekend! :)

Hooray! I am so happy with my new Lord! And if you don't like him, you can suck it 'cause I do. :D :p (no but seriously... opinions?)

VkS0Xl.jpg
Front on, what do you think?

7viA4l.jpg
The storm bolter, pilfered from the right hand of the Chaos sorcerer I am converting for Jon

1gfadl.jpg
The revised Axe

L9UyZl.jpg
The revised sun shoulder pad (I know the axe is crooked there, the GS hadn't really dried yet so it was all bendy)

So I am really happy with that, even though I don't get to see my axe-over-the-head pose I don't really mind, that bolter looks totally mean and the axe looks infinitely better now. (And I got to fit another rune on the dude- on his wrist.)

I also made some progress with the Sorcerer:
fFi74l.jpg
It's just the stomach, although that was the next big step before I could put the rest of him together. His head isn't finished yet- I am sculpting something for it and I haven't gotten a good picture yet, plus it's not done yet. I'll take some pictures once the whole thing is finished, that way I can pretend that the custom helm is a suspenseful reveal!

I really like the plasticard method for the bottom of feet much better than the green stuff method, its much easier, faster, and cleaner looking. Especially if you are planning on magnetizing the feet in order to be able to switch bases. It's also helpful for transportation, not to mention that models snapping off bases is a huge problem for me, so magnets are a simple solution.

Oh. And...

Being a slacker is almost a college requirement... as long as you don't slack too awful much!

I've got the slacker balance covered, I am just a bad college student for hating parties. I'd honestly rather watch TV and sculpt than go out any day of the week.

I also sand-flocked all of the bases for all of the Truescale dudes I've done so far, but that's not so interesting... Tomorrow is "put together wolf that's been waiting for a month" and "finish up sorcerer's body and possibly his head" day. At that point, I will have 5 truescale wolves, a truescale chaos sorcerer and a truescale space marine captain. I think... the next wolf in the works is the rune priest! I have an idea for his rune blade that I think might be cool... We'll see!

This lord is really good. I'm gonna second mick's idea for the cape on the sorcerer, it would give him a very good look.

Love the lord! only thing I feel I want to point out is the crooked axe handle, that's the only thing ruining the model for me at the moment but I'm really picky with that. And yes, I know you're aware, I'm just expressing my voluntary compulsive disorder. :D

@Mickc22 and Cheelfy: Wings and a cape would be overkill imo. Plus I have a couple of books and scrolls and a sword and pistol that I want to put on his belt and a cape would obscure it all... Not to mention I was so unhappy with the last cape I made that I actually removed it after the fact.

@Chrome: I fixed it, don't worry, it just took an overnight of propping it up so the green stuff could dry.

I decided that I was gonna wait on my Rune Priest, I want to get some more bitz so I can put all kinds of little talismans, runes, wolf teeth and skulls etc. on him, really make him look like a shaman of some kind.

I just did a bit of work on my next wolf... it's awesome. I am making a cowering Catachan. I'll take some pictures when I get a chance.

Badass man! (Am I allowed to say badass on here?) This has been probably my favourite thread over the last few weeks.

The wolf lord looks really cool. Much more open than before and the sword shoulder pad looks much better.

I think the previous pose was cool, so maybe you should give that another go for a future marine, just one with a helmet maybe? I dunno just an idea.

If I'm going to be really fussy, I noticed a mould line on the right wolf talisman on his backpack and maybe on his left knee? Bit this is minor and in no way detracts from the awesomeness!

Like the chaos lord guy, I kinda feel like his mutant hand should be turned upwards though, as if he's cradling the newly formed spell in his hand. But I guess you're going for him shooting it forward, which is supported nicely by the pose of the rest of his body. It's a good idea but hey personal preference I guess! I'll just have to make my own! At the moment I think he looks a bit skinny but I think once you get the shoulder pads and backpack on him it'll make a big difference to that.

tbh i dislike the stormbolter of your lord
the blade underneath is not very marine-like i think

Well... good call- it's a chaos marine bolter. I like the bayonet. It's a little over the top, I know but so is the axe. (It's about the same size as a regular marine.)

Thanks! I am glad someone's enjoying my thread, I mostly made it to make sure I kept my project rolling rather than just letting it stagnate.

Ehh... First: no self-respecting Space Wolf goes into battle with his helmet on. Second: I wouldn't want to show up the wolf lord... and third: it was way more trouble than it was worth to screw it up, I don't want to think about how much work it would be to get it right.

The only reason it looks like there's one on the Wolf tail Talisman is cause I took one off and the plastic looks a bit light, it'll change with primer, and the knee is just shaped that way.

I was probably going to try to sculpt "Doombolt" and have it shooting from his hand; the idea is that the spellcasting is what is mutating his hand and causing the ground to upheave and shape itself as the rift between the warp and the real world is torn open by the Sorcerer's mind. I think that would be more clear when its painted- the same color as the spell will be snaking around his hand. You'll see.

Well that's certainly still on the table. I'm not making any decision about what's going on his back until I've completed the rest of the model. I just can't decide until I see it all finished up

I like the way you opened up the pose on the Wolf Lord! I found a winged backpack and you're right, it would be a pain to modify. A cloak may be nice, but you do loose the back of the model with one. The thing I like best about the bigger marines is that there is enough belt space to add lots of details. :)

I started a thread on my wolves and dread. I really don't like digital photography much. I was surprised at how some of the filing and sanding marks are magnified to look like scratches and gouges in the model when in reality the surface is smooth. Oh well! :)

He is nearly completed!

All I have to do is figure out exactly what I want to do with the head and he'll be all set :) I have decided that I want to go with the wings, a cape would cover the sword and the books and the wings just look... they look so amazing on the model, even if they are pretty static. I don't know if I'll be able to get pictures that capture exactly what it's like in real life but I'll give it a shot once the whole thing comes together.

I'm a little behind schedule but I didn't really feel well this weekend so I didn't get much work done. Regardless I think he turned out even better than I thought he would.

I also have two wolves that are currently in pieces, but are coming ever closer to completion. As promised Mr. Cowering Catachan with a piece of shrapnel in his leg:
oqj7zl.jpg

VNegLl.jpg

He's screwed :)

Anyway that's next, then axeguy who will have just finished an overhead swing. Bodies are finished, arms are finished, legs are half done I have to GS the stomachs, plasticard the feet and stick it all together. After that I'll have myself 6 finished Wolves.
