TrystanGST's WIP thread

Looks like a good start, Trystan! You're lighting almost looks too strong - I mean photo tent lighting. Maybe diffuse it a little more. You want a good diffused light so it's strong enough to be able to see the mini but not so strong that it casts harsh shadows and washes out the color. If you have something like a white sheet to put between the light and the mini that will help diffuse it but shouldn't knock down the brightness too much. Also, bring the lights forward more...toward to the front of the photo tent and push the mini toward the back, that way the light is pointed at the front of the mini and less likely to cast shadows as well.

I get what you're saying Kath - but without a base she's very hard to keep upright in the tent, since she weighs so much. Anyways, I'll have more time to work and we'll see what happens.

I see you were there too! Haha.

Anyways, 9 hours on my roof shingling ahead of a storm left me with too little energy to paint, so I've got nothing new this morning. Boo.

Am I heading in the right direction?

Hmm depends on how you want the end result to look like. It looks abit like you made the same mistake i did on my amazon and startes with a skin coloor a tad too dark.

Am I heading in the right direction?

I had to go back and re-read a couple of posts to see what you were going for since a couple of guys are getting all distracted here.

Okay, is the blue on the right just shadow or is it shadow combined with a blue light source?

Now that I can clearly see the flesh tones on the left side they look really great! The blue is coming across very strong, so if it's just supposed to be shadow, then I agree with Mar. But if its shadow plus a (weak) blue light source then I think it's pretty close.

Or maybe do some very thin glazes of the flesh base color, as right now it is way too blue. But on the otherhand, the blending on her right side is very well done.

Alright. Thanks for the input :)

When I first chose this mini as my next project, I did some brainstorming. I looked around the gallery, and she's been painted several times in just about every concievable way. Red, blue, brown, white. Green was open, but unless you're James T Kirk I can't think a she-hulk is sexy lol.

So I did some Wiki research, and modern portrayals of succubi tend to be sexy attractive females. So I wanted to go with a pale skin. When I googled for source images, I found a nice one that had a lot of white light on the left, and a storng blue/white to the right. I can't find the pic again right now, but I decided to imitate the blue light as well as the natural light.

I got you. I can't find She Hulk sexy because of the rock hard muscles, but like Kirk, I am okay with green chicks!

Yay! Ariel may be one of the hottest females out there! I once had the most intense thing with a girl who looked just like her on a snowy st patricks day, and a friend thought they looked similar. I've been looking all over for that girl since then, now believing she was nothing but a st patricks ghost. Nothing but a banshee succubus, roaming the streets of Little London, driving young men into madness! midnight stories about lost love are great, thanks for the memory;) listen to http://open.spotify.com/track/0YmTr59CodN0hzRXRGn8r8 for the necessary moodsetting!

Ischa - I had(have) no idea who she is. I just picked the pic up from google images :)
After reading the posts here, and the OSL tutorials, I went back and tried a few things. Am I getting closer?

One final note - these pics are being taken with my phone, which isn't so hot for getting colors spot on. I tried tweaking in PS, but I'm not going to spend an hour figuring out corrections to a WIP pic.

The point I'm trying to make is that the blue isn't quite so, erm, blue. The base is Hideous Blue, which is more of a darker Space Wolves grey than a true blue.
