Thoughts?! Oh, come on! Now you are just showing off! We all know how small those dark sword minis are  Really nice work on the skin and great contrast so far with the lips and hair, BTW.

Yeah they are. This is my first time working with one - I expect it won't be my last.
Just blocking colors in, so I can get a feel for overall contrast levels.

Man, this Dark Sword mini is proving a harsh mistress. The details (like the chains around her waist) are SO tiny, and yet incredibly detailed.

Getting there. Still need to push the reds more, sort the hair, and a few other little details. Better start working on a base. Maybe I can get a second entry ready. Maybe.

And roninjr, to answer your question - my workhorse is an Isabey 3/0. For large areas I occasionally break out a cheap 2, and for really small stuff (which I rarely encounter until this mini) I have a nice Isabey 0. It's hard to use, since it's so small and the paint dries quickly.

Been a quiet few days. At least from a painting aspect. So much going on, and it's not going to get any easier for the next few weeks. But I did manage to finish a few figures tonight. Just quick jobs, but sometimes those are the most fun.

Still looking at Melisandre for GenCon, if I can finish her and get her based in time. We shall see.

you may have been quiet, but they look really great.
No idea why, but I like the one with the gun better even though the painting on the 2nd one is better.

the 2nd may need some matt warnish. right now the deep folds of the red cloth are shiny.

The Valkyrie is really nice.
Thanks - I was quite pleased with how she came out, especially for a quick job.

This is as far as Torch McHughes gets tonight:

Red is done, grey has been blackwashed, skin, hair, fire and weapon have been basecoated. Still need to basecoat the pouch under his left arm. Have a little something cool planned for his shades too.
More soon!

Just quick jobs eh????

Admit it, you have been slaving at those at night under the stairs, huddled over a candle muttering "my precious"...

Because I am horribly incapable of focusing on one mini at a time (unless it's for a contest, or I'm REALLY into it), I started another Bones to go along with the other two I have going. Over the weekend I pulled out 4 or 5, and asked my fiance which I should paint. She picked Darkrasp, Death Priest.

The robes are based with P3 Umbral Umber, and shaded up with P3 Hammerfall Khaki.
The beard was based with P3 Sanguine Base, Then layered with a mix of GW Bestial Brown/GW Blazing Orange. Final highlights were provided by GW Firedragon Bright.
Yes, he has two eyes under there.
The cloak has been based with GW Dark Angels Green. It will need some darkening in the low spots and of course highlighting.
The staff has been based with P3 Battlefield Brown. I don't think I am going to keep the blade of the sickle as bone though, so that will probably end up grey.

As fun as it is playing with Bones, I want to mix it up and work on something that pushes me. Rather than starting another mini, I decided to keep working on the Prowler. Unfortunately I didn't get a lot done tonight, since I had to spend a good hour just going over all the places paint had rubbed off ><
The claws have just been basecoated black. I can't decide if I want to keep them black (shading lightly with grey) or move them into a brown.

Also, looking at other prowlers in the gallery, I will revisit the face and push the shades more. His face isn't nearly as focal as it could be.

Glad to see your getting back to this one. Love the shading on the skin by the way. It's easy to start highlighting and then all of a sudden you've got dark grey or whatever color you're using. You've avoided that issue here. Nicely done.

So it turns out GenCon isn't dumb like GW. I can use cast bases. So Melisandre will make an entry.

I am also debating dragging the Grandmother down and entering her. I don't think the base is too big. Thoughts?
