Tyranids need \"organic and fleshy\" paintjob

As a birthday prezzy for a friend of mine, I\'m painting up a box of Genestealers and a Lictor.

He said he wants them painted \"Shiny, fleshy and organic. like the \'birth scene\' in the original \'Alien Movie\' and almost vunarable looking, like a foetus or a persons insides\".

And he wants them to have bases that look like the membranes inside a stomach.

I am obviously a bit overwhelmed, I usually paint fantasy stuff, even then its mostly humans, elves etc!

So how do I get a wet, fleshy, pink and \"innardsy\" look for a group of disgusting alien baddies?

I\'m thinking white undercoat, tentacle pink and maybe lich purple basecoats?

Then red ink wash on the pink, then highlight pink back up, pick out details in bone areas and give the whole model a gloss or satin varnish?

For the bone, teeth and claw areas I would like to make them have a weird translucent pinkish effect, like the claws on small mammals.

Any help would be most welcome.

On top of what you said you can use white glue to make mucus dripping of the bodies and on the base. You can tint it or just let it dry clear. Good luck hope he pays heaps for the paint job.

Hmm, maybe if you want a more fleshy appearance you should consider useing more flesh colours. Maybe use flesh colours and then glaze over selectively with red and purple (Putting more glazes on areas you want to be more purpley etc)

The skin areas are probably not going to be as tough as you think, undercoat in a cream, beige or buff and then wash with a tan colour, with Future or gloss medium added to the paint. This will collect in the recesses and lightly tint the upper areas which should give the right kind of look.

Okay, I think I know the effect he\'s looking for. Since you\'ll be going for a gloss finish that\'s good as I don\'t think this works as well when it\'s matt. If you basecoat the areas in a light colour (white might even work) then paint on a fluid wash of crimson or reddish violet.

If you don\'t have Future you could try the same thing with inks. I just thought, you might also try a very pale green in some areas, combined with the glaze this should give a realistic greyish colour that membranes sometimes have.

I would undercoat in a salmon colour, then work in layers to build up to a near-white toward the tips. Alternatively, paint them white, glaze with a cream, then wash the base of the claw with pink.
