[UK] Government pay-per-use car taxation petition

The road pricing that the government propose to introduce will mean a compulsory purchase of the required tracking device (estimated at about £200.00) and pay a monthly bill based upon the milege you do. As an example, a non-working mother taking her children to school would have received a bill for £86.00 for 1 month (Source - BBC)

In addition to the mileage charge, you will be constantly tracked and \'big brother\' will always know your location.... your speed will also be checkable, so expect a bill for speeding if you happen to creep over the limit.

This constant attack on motorists is getting way out of control, so please sign the petition if you value your freedoms.

Wow thst really Big Brother at its best. It would be easier to just add another few pence petrol tax as a users tax than this monstrosity. This is Tax and spend government at its finest.

this country needs an overhaul with how it is run.
the red tape beuracracy is stupid, money gets wasted so that councils will get the same amount the following year instead of being allowed to roll the funds over into the following year.

the poor and working class are getting screwed big time.
if i had the money i would be out of this country in a flash.

same problem here. They are awash in money and they keep asking for more. 99.99% of the time when a new tax is proposed I vote against it. Regardless of what it\'s for. They have enough of my money! Quit giving it away!

I knew a fellow who was working for the government to build a bridge. He was younger and in a lowly position. They told him to clean up the scrap boards in the ravine below the bridge. Being a hardworking fellow, he piles up a stack and climbs up to the top upon which his boss repramands him. Told him to not be so efficient. Carry the wood up one board at a time so as to make the job strech out longer!???

Petrol over here is taxed enough already and gets hit by the budget every year.

They want motorists to use more public transport but to encorage us to use public transport they sold it all of in the privatizations and now they are putting the prices up on that as well and providing a crap service. :cussing::cussing::cussing:

When I started college a year and a half ago it cost me £2 a day to get there and back by bus. Now it costs £2.70.

I say we rebel and overthrow the government.

I pay £250 for a years travel on the metro for inner city Newcastle, good thing is John Lewis have paid for my pass and i only pay £5 a week for it. So it doesn\'t seem to much of a dent in my student pocket!

But...you could always just get a bike.

I have signed and passed it on, when I get back to the ship on 15th I will also pass it around the ship and other friends on other ships as well. Being Armed Forces we get screwed enough as it is with the change in regulations that came in back in October.

Matty if I lived close to work I would happily use a bike or if I worked in the city every day I would use the bus however I drive home weekends and live a good distance from the rail station so a 300 mile round trip on a bike each weekend is not an option. If I drive home it takes me around two and a half hours door to door keeping within speed limits. If I catch the train I am looking at 4 hours including a mile walk to get to the station from work to start with.

Why the hell would I want one of them?

I travel over 100 miles a day carrying about 100lbs of gear.

I already pay through the nose for a totally inadequate road system.

If the government forced us all on bikes do you honestly believe they wouldn\'t start taxing them too?

If you are doing large distances then a car is the only ways especially with that weight, but i was meaning more for inner city travel, back and forward to work, that sort of thing.

Point taken...I didn\'t mean to snap, but my tolerance muscle has worn thin after years of politicians with two jaguars telling me to use public transport or ride a bloody bike.

Nah, I\'d have a Panzer IV and use it to hunt down chavs. It would be worth the hassle of getting one and learning to drive it to churn up the college sports field (vengence on all the people who do sports and get a \"Talented athelete\" jacket! Wheres my \"Talented Archaeologist\" jacket?!) then crash through the front doors and pop out of the hatch and say \"Sorry I\'m late!\"

Anyway, 2Jags, him, yeah. This is the guy who tells us to use the expensive, dirty, chav fiilled and late/notarrivingatall public transport, then drove not 20 yards from his hotel to a party! The pot is no longer a pot but a pile of ash on the stove!

Trouble is that something needs to be done about the massive overuse of motor vehicles. Anything that reduces cars on the road is a good thing, global warming is going to cost billions and something needs to be done NOW.
Our current lifestyle is simply unsustainable and we are in serious trouble. We need to change our wasteful society, complaining about it won\'t make it go away and just because we have been able to fritter our natural resources and damage our environment in the past does not mean we will be able to in the future. A little pain now, could prevent catastrophe.
Having said that, this scheme seems a little hairbrained. What you want is something that allows necessary driving (school run, Finn to work), but reduces wasteful or recreational driving.

Ideally, there should be a government scheme that allows you to trade your gas guzzling car for a green, solar powered one.

And yes I can sit comfortably on my high horse on this one, I walk to work and the car tends to sit in the garage.

If cars are actually causing it...
I don\'t recall archaeologists finding SUV\'s from when global warming caused the end of the Ice Age, nor did they find any during the Medival Warming Period.
Both of which, I might add, were very beneficial to man.

Matty That is a very patronising and somewhat insulting comment. I travel 40 miles each way to work. A bike (or motorcycle) is out of the question as I have been instructed by my doctors that as my balance mechanism is so damaged that I would be a Liability and dangerous (as well as uninsurable).

Public Transport is a farce.
In order to get into work before 09:30 I have to travel to Manchester and get the earliest Liverpool express,(07:20) which will get me to Lime Street at 08:15. I then have to get the link to Birkenhead another 20 mins. The first train to Manchester from Bolton is 06:50.
As it is I leave the house at 06:30 to miss traffic.
