personally i think that people can put what they like on cmon, after all everybody has differences of opinions.and after someone has put loads of effort into producing a really good model surely we should respect that and not go \"oh no not ANOTHER ultramarine, i dont like it!\"

UltraMarines aren\'t a bland army. They have tons of Heroes and they are Tyranid specialist. Don\'t they have have a Hero that can be taken without permission and HE can come with a squad of terminators?

If you look closely there are alot of different Chapters on this site. There is a guy here who has an AMAZING Flesh Eaters chapter. It made me want to do Flesh Tearers.

Thats what annoys me about the current Smurfs. They\'re supposed to be the epitome of the Codex never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever (and so on) breaking from it. Now they have more special units and characters than anyone else! An interesting unit idea like Shrikes Wing for the Raven Guard gets less than a paragraph of info!

Interesting you should say that SW. Cuz in the last book of the Ultramarines novels Captin Ventris and his Sergant Pasanius were booted out the chapter for not following the codex and getting caught (as it were). They then ended up in the eye of terror meting a raven guard called Vaanes who is very like Shrike.

Personally the Sons of Russ can\'t be touched :p

Oh great but really it\'s great

So everyone here hates Ultramarines. They must sell otherwise no one would paint them. I am new to the hobby so I guess I am not sick of them yet. I like the idea of their total unquestioned loyalty to the emperor. Kind of makes me feel like I\'m toying with my dark side a little. Heh.

Pretty much, since the Emperor is a Fifth Chaos God, the God of Letting Someone Else Do Your Thinking For You. As his unswerving devotees the Ultramarines are the equivalent of the Emperor\'s Children or the Death Guard.

here\'s what I think......
hee hee

boo

admittedly though I still like the look of Ultramarines. I still paint em. I think it\'s the more Roman influences for me.
That and Graham Mcneils novels really helped.

The number of beginners doing Um\'s is down to the box at and trust me at Xmas it made life a lot easier whe parents came

\"the blue ones\" are ultra marines
\"the silver roboty ones\" necrons
\"the orangey ones \"Tau
\"the green ones \" Orks
\"the red ones\" Dark Eldar ....oh wait sorry no-one buys them.....;)

I love the Ultra Marines. 10000 years of unwavering loyalty to the Emperor and the better things he stood for. Their adaherance to the codex their Primarch designed not only kept them on the straight and narrow but it most likely drove other factions within the Imperium NUTS with thier unchanging nature. The background of heroic templar like figures(the fantasy templars..not the real Templars) with Roman symbology is wonderful. I collect them, I paint them and hell I even draw them. Uriel Ventris is amazing-lets hope they bring him back to his brothers.

That being said, my dream army is a pre-heresy colour Space Wolves army. I do so love the germanic feel to them-and their organization matched their looks. I just cant stand the damned powder blue paint. Ironically, such colours WERE important to the various germanic tribes(including the Vikings). I beleive that the Saxons especially loved blue-and saw its use as a sign of wealth (I seem to remember something about striped pants being important).

The other chapter I would love to see are the Minataurs. I love the gold and the fact they gave the Inquisition the finger.

Actually..I wouldnt mind making a set of Luna Wolves(having dropped the name Sons of Horus) who stayed to defend the Imperium...or who appeared out from the Warp 10 000 years after the rest of their number turned to Chaos.

And yeah..when all is said and done-the Space Wolves are my favorite too.

the 1 think that gets me off about the ultra(lame)marines is that they are on all the boxes . for me its white scars coz they r fast and black temmplars cause they all crazy

Way back in the mists of time heh, the ultra marines were pretty much ignored, when R.T. was first released, it was either crimson fists (who at the time were written up as a first founding chapter) or the blood angels (Ally morrisons blood angel unit was all over the place)
Personally, when I started out, I created my own chapter, but when I saw the Dave Andrews art that appeared on the cover of an old copy of white dwarf, and was later used as the cover for the 1st 40k compendium, after the book of the astronomican, I decided to change them. about a year or so later I lost interest. When I got back into painting minis again last easter, I decided to pick up where I left off with the marines. Yes is does piss me of that they\'re all over the place, but what am I gonna do, start from scratch.
Any way, I still like them as long as they look all beat up, and not like they\'ve been polishing their armour all week, and to be honest, the all the fluff just goes in one ear and out the other the tools at GW are changing it every 5 minutes anyway. I prefered the description of the marines in rogue trader, it left alot more to the imagination.

See now me... i don\'t play the game. I\'ve painted a few Blood Angels, Wolves, Black Templers and Ultras just for sale or contests and the Ultras tend to sell faster. However the 40K i prefer are those manly SoB\'s. Someday i might actually paint one to boot!

The only thing I find boring about Ultramarines is their boring ruleset. Now, don\'t get me wrong, I was turned off space marines at first because of Ultramarines, but some of the newer models they\'ve released for it have been really nicely detailed and fun to paint things (mind you, I don\'t use them for ultramar, but nothing a little file and chisel can\'t fix). I\'ve seen some very very well painted ultramarines and as bland as it is, I do enjoy looking at well painted ultramarines as much as I enjoy looking at well painted anythings.
That being said, my favourite marines of all time? Black Templar. Fanatical zealots? I love it, although admittedly, my fluff for my crusade turns up in the entire fleet tainted by chaos, but still fanatical zealots nonetheless. Plus the fact that they play nothing like other chapters helps.
Anyways, I suppose while I\'m saying that it is boring sometimes to play against ultramarines after ultramarines, it\'s still great to see a well painted one!
