Ah! But they won\'t be hurt by the park, now will they?!?!

Yes... perfectly safe. Everything must be made perfectly safe.

Trouble is, I can understand the rationale behind their actions in todays overly letigious society where people are on the phone to lawyers after breaking a fingernail.

Edit: Not saying I completly agree with the decision though.

When I was at university, some kids built a large bonfire in our back garden, well, when I say garden it was overgrown with weeds. We tried to get the landlord to sort it out to no avail. The kids set light to the bonfire a few days before Nov 5th. It was a little worrying, it certainly worried the two Greek women next door. I had to calm them down and say it\'s going to be fine. I rang the landlord, but only got his wife who said she would pass on the message. I waited a bit and thought I may need to phone the fire brigade but the fire began to die down thankfully. I never did hear anything from our landlord regarding this matter.

Responsibility for actions is becoming less and less normal in society. If I fall over a pavement that\'s perhaps half an inch proud of the rest of the pavement, I wouldn\'t sue - I\'d tell myself off for not looking where the hell I was going. I\'d also tell the Council to fix it before some w*nker comes along and sees it as an opportunity to spend my Council Tax. Solicitors and Insurance Firms are running the show and it stinks.

A bit off topic I suppose, but it pisses me off mightily.

What a heap of shite. This is why I preffered being in the army. No one gave a f**k about us! We used to build huge bonfires out of pallets and have the kids make Guy Fawkses to put on the bugger.

Healthy dose of petrol and a small explosion, Theres your bloody \"OOOO and AHHHH\" , thats what kids want!
Then we set the sky on fire while the remains of spent fireworks rained down feet away.
And what? Whats that? No one got hurt?

Of course they didn\'t! Unlike the polititans that make up all these stupid f**king rules , WE actually gave a shit!

Which by the way, is more than they done for us on tour. I remember cutting scrap sheet from old vehicles because there were no more plates for kevlar vests! Health and safety my arse...bastards...

well, if everyone was sitting in this football club and they all got there faces burnt, THEN everyone would be pissing and moaning saying it was unsafe etc etc. Swings and roundabouts im afraid. But i\'d rather be safe than in hospital losing my life, know what i mean.

It is crazy the sueing tradition we now have.

My other halfs a persoanl injury Solicitor, but she acts on behalf of the insitution being sued.

Some of the stuff she gets is barking mad.

2 examples or real claims.

1 - Blind woman decides to go to the gym, is help around by staff. Decides to get off of one of the machines by herself, and walks into the equipment. Sues the gym for the equipment being in her way.

2 - Guy working in a saw mill, is stupid enough to decide to clean behind the saw when it\'s still running, and virtually cuts his hand off..........sues the company for poor safety.

Crazy, Crazy, Crazy

@Rev, I think you banged that nail solid on the head.

@Talion, thankfully she\'s not the one representing someone for being stupid.

I had an old mentor that you to tell me \"If you\'re going to be stupid, you\'d better be tough.\"

I once heard that in one primary school skipping ropes were banned.

why----because kids might hang themselves.

we have a bonfire near our house. once a rocket flew through the crowd. one person had to go to hospital. nothing happended.

whats the point in banning it when anyone over 18 can go to a shop and buy a whole load of them.(fireworks)

also---lotr should be sued, have you seen those firworks.!!!lollollollol

Yep no win no fee has a lot to answer for..gone are the days where taking something to court was too cost prohibitive so people didn\'t bother..The whole thing sucks...

unrelated topic.....our lasses sister in Ireland has been taken to court by one of her \"customers\" she owns a beauty Salon and claims that she was burned when she had a waxing......The woman is from a Gypsy camp and has done the same trick 5 times previously at different salons in different counties...The solicitor knows this but isn\'t allowed to put the evidene forward in court as it would \"paint a negative image of the traveller community\" a crock of shite that is going to cost a perfectly honest and hard working woman several thousand pounds and possibly her newly established buisness.........I get so angry at any of these things....

I\'m reading a book right now, which includes tons of these types of anecdotes.

On the one hand, It just makes me mad, on the other maybe if EVERYONE reads this sort of thing and also gets mad, something will be done.

got this mail a while ago most of you may have seen it but it fits so well with todays H&S nonsense.

The (Politically correct) Battle of Trafalgar

Nelson:
\"Order the signal, Hardy.\"

Hardy:
\"Aye, aye sir.\"

Nelson:
\"Hold on, that\'s not what I dictated to the signal officer.
What\'s the meaning of this?\"

Hardy:
\"Sorry sir?\"

Nelson (reading aloud):
\"England expects every person to do his duty, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religious persuasion or disability.
What gobbledygook is this?\"

Hardy:
\"Admiralty policy, I\'m afraid, sir.
We\'re an equal opportunities employer now. We had the devil\'s own job getting \'England\' past the censors, lest it be considered racist.\"

Nelson:
\"Gadzooks! Hardy, hand me my pipe and tobacco.\"

Hardy:
\"Sorry sir. All naval vessels have been designated smoke-free working environments.\"

Nelson:
\"In that case, break open the rum ration. Let us splice the main brace to steel the men before battle.\"

Hardy:
\"The rum ration has been abolished, Admiral. Its part of the Government\'s policy on binge drinking.\"

Nelson:
\"Good heavens, Hardy. I suppose we\'d better get on with it ...
full speed ahead.\"

Hardy:
\"I think you\'ll find that there\'s a 4 knot speed limit in this stretch of water.\"

Nelson:
\"Damn it man! We are on the eve of the greatest sea battle in history.
We must advance with all dispatch. Report from the crow\'s nest please.\"

Hardy:
\"That won\'t be possible, sir.\"

Nelson:
\"What?\"

Hardy:
\"Health and safety have closed the crow\'s nest, sir.
No harness. And they said that rope ladder doesn\'t meet regulations. They won\'t let anyone up there until a proper scaffolding can be erected.\"

Nelson:
\"Then get me the ship\'s carpenter without delay, Hardy.\"

Hardy:
\"He\'s busy knocking up a wheelchair access to the fo\'c\'sle Admiral.\"

Nelson:
\"Wheelchair access there? I\'ve never heard anything so absurd.\"

Hardy:
\"Health and safety again, sir.We have to provide a barrier-free environment for the differently abled.\"

Nelson:
\"Differently abled?
I\'ve only one arm and one eye and I refuse even to hear mention of the word.
I didn\'t rise to the rank of admiral by playing the disability card.\"

Hardy:
\"Actually, sir, you did. The Royal Navy is under-represented in the areas of visual impairment and limb deficiency.\"

Nelson:
\"Whatever next? Give me full sail. The salt spray beckons.\"

Hardy:
\"A couple of problems there too, sir.
Health and safety won\'t let the crew up the rigging without hard hats. And they don\'t want anyone breathing in too much salt - haven\'t you seen the adverts?\"

Nelson:
\"I\'ve never heard such infamy. Break out the cannon and tell the men to stand by to engage the enemy.\"

Hardy:
\"The men are a bit worried about shooting at anyone, Admiral.\"

Nelson:
\"What? This is mutiny.\"

Hardy:
\"It\'s not that, sir. It\'s just that they\'re afraid of being charged with murder if they actually kill anyone.
There\'s a couple of legal-aid lawyers on board, watching everyone like hawks.\"

Nelson:
\"Then how are we to sink the Frenchies and the Spanish?\"

Hardy:
\"Actually, sir, we\'re not.\"

Nelson:
\"We\'re not?\"

Hardy:
\"No, sir. The Frenchies and the Spanish are our European partners now.
According to the Common Fisheries Policy, we shouldn\'t even be in this stretch of water. We could get hit with a claim for compensation.\"

Nelson:
\"But you must hate a Frenchman as you hate the devil.\"

Hardy:
\"I wouldn\'t let the ship\'s diversity co-coordinatorhear you saying that, sir. You\'ll be up on disciplinary.\"

Nelson:
\"You must consider every man an enemy who speaks ill of your King.\"

Hardy:
\"Not any more, sir. We must be inclusive in this multicultural age.
Now put on your Kevlar vest; it\'s the rules.\"

Nelson:
\"Don\'t tell me - health and safety. Whatever happened to rum, sodomy and the lash?\"

Hardy:
As I explained, sir, rum is off the menu! And there\'s a ban on corporal punishment.\"

Nelson:
\"What about sodomy?\"

Hardy:
\"I believe it\'s to be encouraged, sir.\"

Nelson:
\"In that case ...
kiss me, Hardy!\"

kk... easiest thing in that case is not to risk your life and not go at all. The tragic part is that we really do live in a nanny state.... \'Boys Own\' japes are definetely a part of a Golden Age and never to be revisited.... Swallows and Amazons, climbing trees, making dens, being OUTDOORS..... it all seems too dangerous. I, for one, mourn its passing.

actally---making dens isnt supposed to be unsafe but \"gay\". I dont know why but everyone seems to think that. I like that sort of stuff--like making bows and arrows and trying to hunt stuff in the garden. never catch anything but HELL its fun.

\"the dangerous book for boys\" is probabbly the best book you could get. it tells you the best things like secret codes, invisable ink, paper planes and a whole load of other stuff.

ugh, just ugh. Growing up my family took me into another state where fireworks were legal, In ILL anything more powerful then a roman candle is illegal without a pyrotechnics certificate. Then we would hide the things in the car, head home and blow crap up. Nothing was safe about it. This day and age everything is so sanatized for our protection i might as well live in a bubble.
