I think language barrier is a bit of the issue in Beltanes sometimes "blunt" comments. He calls stuff as he sees it but I don't think he means harm(?).

As for the mini. Bigger pics would show off the painting better perhaps? Now it's difficult to see and remember it's "cool" mini or not. Some might not like the miniature as implied. I don't think it looks like a 9.4 or a 8.1. Something around 8.9-9.1 I'd say giving the images the benefit of the doubt. A good score and in hand it might be better!

The limit is 1,5mb now for this site, so size restrictions aren't a huge issue anymore.

Please excuse me, as I am pretty much a beginner at this and thus have not yet developed the "eye" to see things properly, but that mini looks terrific to me. I should say in real life I am a professional artist-illustrator, so I am not coming into this completely blind. But I freely confess I'm not up on mini culture and expectations.

The ranking system I confess I do not yet have a handle on. 7.9 is not good? How does it work? I couldn't find a reference for how many points were supposed to be for poor, fair, good, excellent, outstanding and the like, nor what I was supposed to be looking for -- color, clarity, uniformity, three-dimensional effect, overall appearance, what?

It's like judging Olympic gymnastics without knowing how.

While a 7.9 is a great score, many people deserve higher, in the 8's or 9's.
1-5 is generally bad, 5-7 is table top 7-8 is above table top 8-10 is amazing
give or take a few points. There are some artists who have pieces ranking 6.8 who really deserve a 7.5-8.
Another reason if you can see registered votes to non-registered votes, you can see a trend. Usually the registered score is a little higher because it only counts registered memebers, not the guy who didn't register surfing the site and clicked 6 on every mini he sees.

Beltane, it's an excellent piece. Keep it up.
