Hope this a good palce to post this. I was just wondering if anyone else would be intrested in seeng GDW introduce a line of minis from the Horus Heresy? It could be whole new line of minis, including vehicles, special units and so forth. Of course a supplemnet would be required or a whole new rule book. Just wondering? Oops there gose the game budget!!!!

I've seen the Forgeworld stuff but I'm sure GDW would do a more complete job and with the way their latest palstic stuff looks I'm guessin it would be a whole new world. Just recently picked upa copy of "The Horus Heresy Collected Visions" whic realy turned me on to the idea.

The original Epic called Space marine was set during the Horus Heresy. I can safely say that I've gamed in that period and personally I'm glad to move on from it. Saying that though I would like to see some updated HH era marines and Guard as my old Beakies are looking slightly anorexic next to the latest batch.

I'm not well verse in the 40K (or 30K) 'verse as it is...

Can someone nutshell it for me?

Marine chapters were massive and powerful. Emperor entrusted one guy, Horus, as the guy in charge of the marines. Horus gets corrupted by Chaos. Chaos Marines formed. Certain chapters defect. Lots of marines fighting marines. Emperor 'dies' becoming a sort of barely living godlike thing. Marine Chapters take on much stricter and limiting doctrines. Not nearly enough Sisters of Battle making love. Too many marines for someone who couldn't care any less for marines.

Eldar in decline, but not as declined. Tau aren't around yet. Tyranids not really a problem yet. Orks are still Orks. Necron haven't become a real threat yet. Dark Eldar were probably stuck in the same codex they've been using until it was updated oh so recently.

Imperial Guard had better weaponry. Still just as squishy.

So, in today's fluff....The Space Marines have lost some of their previous stature?

And does this Horus figure still exist in the current story line?

It was the time before the current game when the emperor was leading his troops in person. Go to the GDW site and you can get a capsulised version of the events of the 40K. One of his greatest generls turned on him and started a civil war amongest the space marines. If you get a miunute look at the forge world site and you can see some of the different units that existed during that time. Pretty neat stuff and a whole new bunch of models to work woth. I think it would be interesting. if you get a chance try and barrow or get a copy of the beek I mentioned in my last post. Its got the whole story in it along with lots of images of the units and equipment. Did I help?

They're still held in awe by the entire imperium, but they don't have the same military might. Only 1,000 marines per chapter (or abouts) and they are under constant scrutiny. Most of the chapters that still exist didn't have defecters, and thus hold a lot of prestige. They remained faithful, you could say. I think it was Dark Angels that have the distinction of being the only one that split, but I don't remember.

As for Horus....uhh...not sure?

No, he was utterly destroyed by the emperor but in doing so the emperor got mind blown and now survives on a tecnological wonder called the Golden thrown, which sustains him in a state of living but not able to do anything. The thrown however is failing and the emperor is fed 1000 physkers a day just to live.

But if the emperor was allowed to die he would become a crazy uber god in the warp and destroy chaos, but the imperials don't know that.

This site is cool if your bored!

The dark angels split to Dark angels and the fallen but its complicated!

No Horus was killed but he he wounded the emporer and he was enthroned on earth on the "Golden Throne". Basiclly the bad guys lost int the lobg run but gave rise to the forcs of Chaos

And let's not forgot a good healthy dose of facist military junta's and communist space pikeys lol

Well that's pretty consistent across the entire timeline. The only places you don't see it as much are on the Deathworlds. Most Commissar's can't hoof it in places like the Catachan Jungles, or the Icy Peaks of Fenris. Most. Some Commissar's are freaking immortal. At least the ones the empire keeps rebuilding and healing. Some Colonel's too. One in particular...

Pretty much, instead of a chapter with 100k marines they were all split down into chapters of 1000 strong, apart from the black templars. there are shit loads of them

I'm about halfway through the series. Very good reading. A better writer could've made it an epic series, but for the love of fluff, it really stokes the fires. Got me to start playing and inspired me to start my Display of the original 20 chapters.

I believe that it would've been even better if they had just kept it to ONE author to begin with, Quite awesome to make a series written by several authors at once but there is a slight inconsistency in their use of words, naturally.
