The HOAs here can be pretty nasty, especially with the watering regulations (living in a desert, I do understand the logic with that). I will defend the HOA to some extent, as it does tend to keep the neighborhood looking nice.

I used to live in a neighborhood with an HOA. Really pretty place, it had artificial lakes and stuff (and in the desert those are rare and very cool). They decided that it did not look good if people had cars parked along the street (this is a large community with small spider-like roadways going through the whole thing). It\'s not like it was a main roadway or something. They were ticketing and fining people who left their car next to the curb overnight! For some people it\'s not a problem to park in the driveway, but for houses with more than two cars it\'s impossible.

I currently live in a neighborhood with no HOA. Most people keep their yards and houses looking great. But there are always one or two houses on each street that just look bad. Overgrown plants, cars parked in the front lawn, etc. There\'s one house with a boat on a trailer parked in the front yard, with beer cans all around the base of it. The owners stand outside and drink all the time and insult anyone who walks by (I swear, it\'s like that tv show King of the Hill). lol

one woman got fined £60 because a chip fell off a tray in the street even though she offered to pick it up.
the latest idea is apparently to charge companies for people parking at work, and guess who will end up footing that bill? the employee\'s

Maybe my boyfriend and I should go to Singapore instead, then. I think they\'re a bit more relaxed about these things! lol

How daft, tho. It\'s clear that the people dreaming these things up have not the slightest inkling of the ramifications. Still, what else is new?

There was a recent case where someone was finded for putting out the Wrong bin for collection. IE a recycle bin on a non-recycle day.
Personally that one I\'d fight all the way to Brussels and beyond.

apparently a lot of the recycling we sudiously put out gets sold to india and is dumped. our coucils send it to waste management companies but as a lot doesnt get sorted correctly recycling companies cannot take it and rather than pay £160 to get it processed they can ship it to india for £40 where the best bits are used and the rest just dumped.
and what they do with computers is a another crooked thing
