What brush sizes do you use?

I\'ve heard it said by some people that they do the vast majority of their painting with a Citadel \"standard\" brush. This just sounds ridiculous to me (although I have never seen their models, they maybe crap, these people at-least SOUND like they know what they\'re talking about).

I have a Citadel \"standard\" brush and I hardly ever use it, only for large, undetailed surfaces.

The smallest I use is a 4/0 brush for irisis and pupils and things like that, usually only with a teeny dot of paint at a time.

Most often I use a 0 or a 00 brush, or the Citadel \"Fine Detail\" brush (which IMHO is really too fat for \"fine detail\" - this is my standard brush).

What about you guys? Am I just way off here ...

i like to use 2 and 3 size brushes for doing armies of stuff like tons of marines and such, mind u i usually use em for the main color drybrushed on. 1 is good for gaming quality detail.

As for display stuff ya, anything under a 1 can be used, the smalle the better for this scale.

I have been using mostly Adiken 0 and 3/0 brushes lately, need to look into the Reaper sable 30/0 to see if that would make eyes easier, but I get a pretty good point on my 3/0 for that most of the time.

Reaper sable 30/0 & 20/0 standard fair

Larger I use the gold nylons line by Armory love the spotters
They have stopped importing the WN where I get them so I shifted to the Reapers that are available

I use a 00 and a 000 ( detail and fine detail gw equivilant) for most of my work. Really it is not about the size of the brush that you use rather about your ability of the brush realted to \'brush control\'. Having a good quality brush always helps too - that way you will find that you are able to paint smaller details with a larger size brush due to the brush pointing alot easier and more naturally.

I use three Winsor & Newton series 7 brushes: a 1 for larger surfaces, a miniature 0 for most of my work, and a miniature 00 for eyes and fine lines.
Truth be told, I could probably skip the 00.

I tend to go for the smallest I can find for detail, and finding a tiny brush where I am is easier said than done. I\'m currently using the fine detail brush and a brush and a \"Royal soft-grip\" brush, size 20/0. which is a great brush.

I never really got a good Citadel brush so I found Valejo Kolinsky Sable and fell in love with them. I use mostly 1 or 2 for large regular detail and 2/0 3/0 for fine detail.

Good quality sable brushes will come to a very fine (pupil painting) point, even if they are quite large (1 or 2)! My advice is to stop using the shit GW sell and buy some decent ones!!!

I agree with spacemunkie to be honest, I use a 1 and a 00 for all of my stuff. I have a 000 but i find it too small for anything but eyes. I know the crappiness of my paint jobs is not because of my brushes (them is good Windsor and Newtons) but is all my own :D

Also, they last a long time if you take care of them, I\'ve had mine 2 years and they still come to a teeny tiny point!!

ITS NOT THE SIZE THAT MATTERS ITS HOW YOU USE IT.

I have a good range of sables 2,1,0,00,000.Usually only the 0 and 000 get used.
I do have a very fine knackered old citadel fine that just happened to loose its hairs and end up as a great eyeliner.
Dont look for the smallest size brush for fine detail, its the point thats important.

I use my 4 and my 2 the most, even for detail. They have a point that is really fine and so it works nicely. Also I have smaller ones that I use sometimes.

As for GW brushes - every single one that I have bought looked like an exploded palm tree after a very short time....

I use a size 0 brush for most work and a size 1 for coverage. I also have a 5/0 brush of very high quality that I use for some extreme details and certain effects, but it\'s a bit tedious since it holds so little paint.

I use only GWs standard and fine detail brushes. I do eyes with the fine detail and almost everything else with the standard, works for me :)

Pro-Art pure Sable sizes 2,1,0,00,000, they are a bit on the expensive side but give very good results.
I only realy use GW brushes for drybrushing/overbrushing and painting glue onto bases and undercoating areas where the spray misses.

i only use 3 brushes to paint everything
a revell 5/0 4/0 and a gw drybrush for basecoating or basing
these revell brushes are almost indesctructible, used them for over a year now without ever cleaning them

Well I usually only use 2 brush, both winstor a newton. One size 0 and one size 00. They work fine for me and I usually am able to do anything I want with them providing my hand is steady anothe :p
