well, the original battletech was supposed to be based on the little figures
Actually, the original battletech was supposed to be based on cardboard standup cards with pictures of mechs on them. Same for the original Blood Bowl. Then the makers found out there was a lot of $ to be made in selling the little figures.
Touche. It didn\'t take very long as I remember. I had a box set of figs before I had the full 1st edition rulebook. And those cardboard standups stunk. I good breeze the game was buggered.

Well, that\'s true for most games. Some terrain can go easily, and a stiff wind can topple plastic minis. Of course that\'s why I usually play indoors (and why I\'ve converted a couple of my games to magnetic versions - including one huge wall-mounted sheet of steel board!)

I originally got into the hobby with the intent to play, but I found that I enjoyed painting more than I liked most of the games. I still have my fantasy and 40k armies, but I never really intend to play with them. Paint them, someday, possibly...but not really to play.

I probably don\'t play as much because I can be a competitive bastard sometimes. :D I do occasionally do minis for RPG\'s, but that\'s not primarily why I paint. In fact, I have a few minis for characters in D&D campaigns, but they\'re waaaaay on the backburner.

Well I\'m not exactly one of the masters on here (in fact I\'ve never posted a single pic) but I got into the hobby from roleplaying and I still roleplay more than I paint. I started off painting minis for my characters and then discovered I couldn\'t be happy not painting all the other cool figures I saw.

I\'m still not painting all the other cool figures, but at least I have the intention of painting them all someday, when I win the lottery and and can quit working and just RPG and paint minis all day.
lol

Currently I have come ful circle again. I started out role playing in College and when I came home after 4 years I didn\'t have a gaming group but I had my minis. Then I found a gaming group. Then I left my gaming group. Now while I occasionaly have an online game I still have my minis.

If I wasn\'t so busy I\'d probably start looking for a gaming group. Assuming that there is a gaming group for old 40+ geasers in my area. I\'m probaby the only one who gets excited at the thought of a 1E AD&D game at Gen Con. (I play 3.5E of course but the old days were still fun in their own way.)

LOL, Well, here\'s another 40\'+ geezer who started out with wargames and got hooked on D & D while in the Air Farce..,er, Air Force. I live it upstate NY (The real Upstate NY, right by the Canadian border), and just recently joined a young group 40K gamers that I can game against. Man, it feels good to roll dice again and see the visual panorama of scores of minis on a tabletop battlefield.

Where exactly? I had a friend from Lisbon and I visited him one summer when I was living in Ithaca. We swam to Canada! Well, not really, but we could have. We swam from island to island in the river and realized we could make it across that way if we wanted to.
Good times but too much snow.

PAINTING!!!

With a bit of modelling/sculpting - especially bases:D

Can never bring myself to use my armies once done. I may eventually get around to posting some pics of my Space Wolves. The finished ones are spangly!

Lisbon is very close where I live. A little hamlet called Rensselaer Falls. More or less
between Gouveneur, Ogdensburg and Canton.

Yep. Agree on the snow description. I\'m originally from Southern California. During winter my wife can hear me sing \"California Dreamin\'\" while shoveling my driveway.

Does your friend from Lisbon paint minis and /or game?

I started gaming and painting at about the same time. Originally, just one mini to represent my D&D character at the time.
Then I just gamed for a long time.

Personally, I\'m pleased that I get table-top ratings, on average, but I\'m working to improve.

I have a regular gaming group on friday nights, and we mostly have minis to be our characters.

I ditched them both to be a sculptor:D

I sometimes paint bits here and there, but I haven\'t played a game in years
