What do you do with LEs/rarities?

For myself, I buy minis I like and that I want to paint, I like collecting rarer or hard-to-find stuff and I like to collect items with some personal meaning to me.

Just yesterday I splashed out on bunch of Ral Partha Planescape stuff and an old Ral Partha dragon set beacuse I\'m a big Planescape fan and I love dragons. They\'ve already been opened and fondled lovingly, and in the fullness of time, I will paint them. My Ashan Tyr and the Howling Pack will also get painted- eventually! My position is that they\'re primarily toys, and are there to be enjoyed and to have something done with them, not to just sit in a box for the rest of their days (although I\'m hanging onto the boxes for the rarer stuff I have). I have no plans to sell these (or any of my other shineys) in the near future, but I know that many people just buy LEs so that they can sell them on later, still MIB.

So, my questions are: Do you collect LEs/rarities at all? And if you do, what do you generally do with them once you\'ve got them?


(Yeah, I know there was a thread like this a while back, but since it was about 5 years ago, I thought it would be interesting to see if anything has changed.)

I\'ve had a few LE or OOP minis, I just treat them like any other mini (and maybe make a little more than usual if I eBay them ). I\'m painting the LE Slann Mage Priest right now, and I\'ve sold the LE Forgeworld pilot and OOP Lord Solar Macharius, both painted, on eBay.
I have an awesome old Ral Partha dragon (The Armoured Dragon) that MPJ sent me in a mini exchange. I think that\'s quite rare.

I buy those I like, I hoard them in my pile of unpainted lead for a couple of years, I paint them (occasionally, at least) and they end up in my cabinet! Pretty much like any other, non-rare, miniature.

There\'s one in a store I know about, which is where I saw it. But seeing as I bought all this stuff yesterday and spent an alarming amount of money, I\'m gonna hold off until next month, at least.

I like to collect all the GW Limited figures mint in their packs(although they are not that limited in numbers!). I used to get Games Day extras and sell them to pay for the day out, but now they produce a Generic figure for all GD\'s the market has fallen unless its a really good figure!!

I also have a collection of unreleased GW figures.

If the Limited figure is really good then I will have a painted one in my collection.

Seriously if I can get some money for them that would be great but it\'s more an excercise in self control that I don\'t open them just for the hell of it and never do anything with them. If I ever need one for a project and I can safely say I\'ll actually paint it then I\'ll certainly open it though.

Oh yeah I\'d conveniently forgotten about that one Baz... The best Xmas present by far was the big case. I use mine all the time.

@ Matty, Don\'t worry matey it\'s no biggie hence me not having mentioned it before. It\'s the box that brings the value, I can pick up another mini anytime.

Out of curiousity, do they really shed value that fast? I have almost no GW minis and know very little about the company, so... ???

Well most of the ltd. minis I have aren\'t worth much more now than when I got them. I would have been better off just buying the most popular minis of the day and keeping them in the pack.

they used to mean something to me.. but then I less and less felt the desire to own most of them.

I sold most kept a few..so it goes.

I did find a LE GD Black ork the other day. Not in Blister but still a sweet figure. I have to so if anyone wants to buy it..drop me a PM.

I generally only buy the limited edition models if i really like the model or i have an idea of what i will do with it.

so far i have:

The white dwarf (w/ Bugman and Gotrek)
The limited edition Gotrek and Felix diroma.
Gamesday archaon.
the 2007 GD Orc.
GD Black Orc.
The Skulls 3SM standard.
An the Ultramarines skulls standard bearer.
