I never even thought about becoming a member until reading this post. I always had this empty feeling inside. A hole in my heart that just couldn\'t be filled....until now.
Just sent in my money and now I feel all fuzzy inside:drool:

That would shock the shrinkers!

Anyway Chern was on the money with his comments. I\'ve had my star for 2 years, I will gladly continue to support this site.

I\'m still wondering what the odds are that a dating site with so many modelesque members is for real. What do you want to bet, most of the \"women\" on that site are actually pornograpic web-pages?

I reckon it\'s a bit obvious, have you sen some of the munters that actually post on dating sites???
Granted there are some real gems. but it makes you wonder why they need to use this service...

As Chern-Ann has already said, no one is holding a gun to people\'s heads and forcing them to visit the site.

I just read Chern Anns replies and I just have to say BRAVO!

You certainly do not need to try to please all the people all the time. I have one customer who keeps business cards of his opposition, whenever he gets a customer who just is\'t worth it he hands them one and politely tells them since he onviously can\'t satisfy there needs then maybe they should check out the others.

I would also like to say that for most people it would be a breech of working conditions to be caught viewing CMON at work.
It would also be far more embarassing for many to be viewing a miniature site than have ads with women in them.

That is a sad opinion to have, and is precisely the reason that our hobby has such a geeky label attached to it. I am not embarassed by the fact I paint minis, and take great pride in explaining to people what I do and helping them appreciate it as a skill. If less people were embarrassed about it, and took pride in their hobby then maybe it wouldnt be considered so geeky.

But I\'ll have to agree with you, browsing CMoN (and non-work related sites in general) is probably a cautionary offense in most workplaces, ads or no ads.

Okay, so I broke down and bought my star. It\'s worth it, and I was being cheap by not doing it. When I got my settings together, I opted to block external ads. No big whooptydoo. But now, after reading this, I am wondering, when you say \"via viewing the ads\" do you mean not blocking them, or actually clicking on them? I can continue to ignore them if leaving them unblocked pays the site money.

Thanks for subscribing, it\'s appreciated.

As for blocking/keeping ads (internal or external), if you find that they\'ve got no value to you, blocking them saves impressions for visitors that may actually respond to the ads, and that increases the rate that CMON receives due to the better conversion rate ads get. If you know that you won\'t be interested in whatever they\'re offering, then turning them off is also good.

It\'s not a precise science, so whatever works for you (subscribing or not, ads on or not) is generally ok with me.

As a small insight, I\'m getting reports from the external advertisers every day, and yes, those date ads DO get signups from this site. So it\'s a service that someone is interested in buying.

There are also some plugins for firefox to block all sorts of ads ;) I believe it\'s called adblock, or adblocker. Nonetheless, those boobs on the right, below the panel with recent topics look good :p My girlfriend asked me whether coolmini became a porno site :D

I\'m sorry but what a load of knobs. I am in no way embarrased that I paint minis, but that has absolutley nothing to do with how other people will percieve it.
The reality is that if every figure painter proudly stood up and said I paint minis and I\'m proud the rest of the population would point and say look at that bunch of geeks!

I suppose you were offended by the 40 year old virgin?

You said that it was more embarrassing looking at a mini site rather than a site with semi-clad girls. I said that was sad and explained why. How is that a load of knobs?

It all depends whether you pander towards the \'lads\' or the \'geeks\'. Neither way \'offends\' me, but I think that being embarrassed about something you do means that you worry too much about other peoples perception. I am not saying we should all stand up and make a mockery of ourselves in the way you so ironically suggest but more take the time to explain what we do to others.

It really isnt all that geeky. Its artistic, its demanding and takes a lot of concentration. Something people can appreciate when explained.

Unless you are a gamer, then you are doomed to geekiness for eternity ;)

Nope, wasnt offended by that either. It has very little in common with me being 27 and engaged... Although it didnt help your predicament of worrying that people judge you as a geek just because you paint minis.

I havent seen the film - it just didnt float my boat

When i started my Uni course, we had a speed dating style get to know people actity, we had to tell people something about ourselves that other people would remember. I said that i painted minis, all of the reactions i got were great, with responses like \"you must have a great attention to detail\" and \"very hand eye co-ordinated\", and surprise surprise everyone remembered that about me.
So telling people first off was a good thing for me, and it has made me an individual in a class of \'artists\'
