Okay, I\'m finaly back online. So here\'s the story...
I\'d recieved the new \'puter and had cleared the desk to set the new one up. However, when it came to setting up the monitor, I deiscovered they\'d sent me the wrong power cable, a continental Europe two-pin and not a UK 3-pin plug. Gah! I phoned up pixmania (after getting their number from Samsung as no paper work was sent with the monitor) and they said they\'d send the proper cable as soon as possible. Six days go by and nothing so I phone them again. \"So you have the wrong cable and you\'re still waiting?\" was the reply to my query. It appears they hadn\'t got off their collective backsides to even sort it out yet. I decide to set the old computer back up but I\'d given my sister the old keyboard. Okay, I thought, I\'d use the new one. Nope, didn\'t work, so I shifted things back. It really wasn\'t a good idea to go moving that heavy CRT monitor around again, so I felt knackered for a while. Another six days pass, when it finally arrives. So, armed with the adapter I set up the computer. Lots of oohs and ahhs at the new flashy system.
Then it came to connecting to the internet. Uh-oh, Houston, we have a problem. Ecept for a brief time it worked long enought to get a couple of automatic updates for the anti virus software, I couldn\'t connect. I phoned BT\'s technical support. After about half an hour working with the technician and no luck she decides that she needs to speak to her superior as a higher level of expertise was required. A few minutes go by and and she gets back to me telling me that her superior says my speedtouch modem is not compatible with windows vista and I would need to upgrade. *sigh*.
I was going to change my broadband package after a little research once back online but I now had to decide just to get back online. I decided on a new package and made the phonecall to set it up. I was told it would take 7-10 days to switch over and receive the new router. Therefore I just resigned myself to having to wait again. Ten days come and go and all I had to show was a letter confirming the details. So, time to phone them up again when I was told the router would be sent out on the 4th April and would take 2-3 days to arrive. So, imagine my surprise when it turned up today, especially after all the delays I\'ve had. So, I\'m back online, yay! NHot all the issues have been dealt with, though. They spelt my name wrong so I\'m stuck with it until they change it (I have to send a letter asking them to) and I can\'t seem to get the new e-mail to work in Windows Mail (formerly known as Outlook Express). I can access it on the website so it\'s not much bother. However, a new ISP means that I can\'t access any missed e-mnails on my btinternet address so my apologies to anyone who might have sent one to that address.
So, what have I learnt? Check the compatibility of all devices with each other and the sofware and make absolutely sure that when you receive the items that not only are all parts accounted for; but that they are all correct for your country.
Okay, so that\'s that.
The other matter brought up in this thread concerning my health. matty is correct, it\'s M.E. that I have. It\'s still debilertating but affects different people to different degrees with different symptoms. How Sally White manages with four kids and helping to run the business is amazing to me. I think she\'s one of my heroes.
