WHAT HAVE GAMES WORKSHOP EVER DONE FOR US ?

Its very easy with the anonimity this site gives and the distance between us all to be very negative about certain issues,G.W. must be at the top of the list. But here and now I want to come out of the closet and say HURRAH! for G.W.Why you ask, simple 3 brilliant creations.Top of my list ,the SPACE MARINE.I have read all the Black Library Marine novels which put flesh on the marine world and believe me they are fantastic,my personal favourites are the Ragnar Blackmane,Space Wolf novels but they also have novels covering the Ultramarines and Grey Knights, and whats more the figures are in plastic which make the conversion possibilities endless.Next the Kroot, are they not one of the coolest aliens ever created, I love em and yet again the kits are plastic! Finally the Sisters of Battle, well hard women for a well hard world, which means our own lovely ladies on CMON have some gutsy female models(GOD bless Victoria Lamb and her airborne sister).Come now my fellow miniaturists you also must have G.W.pieces that you think are awesome!Lastly I can assure you I am not in any way employed or attached to G.W. GOD Bless. ... Vincenti

I have some GW minis I absolutely love. They aren\'t that many, but nevertheless, credit where credit\'s due. I love the Emperor\'s Champion. I also love some of the henchmen for the Demon- and Witchhunters. Some Chaos characters are pretty good too!

And dont forget they basically opened the hobby up to the masses and made it a valid mainstream thing to do. They also made the hobby into a real business which has allowed companies such as Rackham, Urban Mammoth, PP etc to become what they are.

no, I dont agree with all their business practices, nor do I like every model they produce. BUT I do think that our hobby has a lot to thank them for

I agree with Peter, the strength of GW allows the other smaller countries to access an organised base of customers and helps them to survive.

All we really need to ask ourselves is this, if GW disappeared tommorow, would our hobby be in a better or worse state? I for one think it would be a lot worse.

It\'d only be worse if you play GW games.

I couldn\'t care less one way or the other. Plenty of companies would fill the breach.

Like it or not, selling GW has probably kept many FLGS\'s in the black over the years. Thus allowing access to the hobby for many. Adn they do have many cool models... as well as many crap or ridiculous ones.

Scale modelers probably have the same gripes, but would also admit that for every expert-class model with brass etched parts, their local hobby shop sells five junky Airfix kits that some kid takes home and butchers to death. It\'s just what happens in a niche industry.

Cheers for GW! I don\'t like every aspect, but the negative ones definitly don\'t outnumber the positive ones...:)

Fanboy sense...tingling...

Sorry. I can\'t say that. I got into the hobby because of TSR, Ral Partha and Grenadier. I bought some of their stuff off and on starting in 86\', but i didn\'t get really serious about them until \'89. I kick myself now because I missed a lot of cool miniature companies during the 90s because I gave all of my money to GW. Grendal comes to mind.

You can\'t afford anything else after buying their stuff. lol

drink??? I thought that was for GW Bashing?

GW were the first easily accessible figures for me, and the first IIRC to introduce a Sci-Fi game with a rich background (probably wrong though). As a kid I would invent worlds and soldiers and hi-tech stuff but GW did that for me when I first saw Rogue Trader.

They\'re not perfect, and sometimes completely get it wrong, but hats off to them for their contribution, even if it is now a worldwide monster empire nowadays

Emperor\'s Champion

The Emperor\'s Champion models (Limited Edition I / Limited Edition II / and Current) made me want to paint again, got me into the 40K game, and opened the door to the whole hobby for me again (I took a 10 year break)
I have saved about 145 Emperor\'s Champion images off the net, and am thrilled everytime one of you chaps posts a new one!
Loads of fun, for the small, small fee of about $1000US every year! :D

OK I will admit it. I like their skaven. Great to have for a Lankhmar campaign.

They are still kind of expensive though.

GW has never done anything for \"me.\" Neither has anyone else. Come to think of it, I never asked any of them for anything in the first place. :p

hey whats going on here? everyones gone soft...admitting that you like some gw minis. ;) Whats wrong with folk these days :)

I\'d have to say that they brought greenstuff to the masses......well, to me anyway.

I love tons of their stuff. Have given mucho deniro to their company, and will probably do so in the future. Them fat cats can\'t light their cigars with out my dollars!!

Right now, though, I have burnt myself out on GW...I still appreciate some of the stuff they do, but I am definately looking at different genres now.

There is a bit of a trade off. As consumers I suppose we can\'t ask to have the GW stuff readily accessible and easy to find and then be shocked by the corporate shenanigans.

They are a good company that puts out a good product. I just think right now they are going through some unpopular times because of some management decisions. Hopefully, they will right the ship before too long.

actually, one thing GW did was bring a shop to the town where I live. The staff are ok (well trained! :D), we talk about painting and sculpting, and it\'s nice to have somewhere to do that (that\'s actually face to face). Nothing like that before.

Faves? Eldar Aspect warriors by Mr Goodwin. Space Marines (Vincenti and I agree on that!), Plastic Guardsman, Inquistors........(the whole imperium thing really)
Dislikes? Dark Eldar - mostly hideous, especially the plastics.....what were they on? Increasing prices..... elelments of Golden Demons (if I ever won, would I change that opinion?)
