\"Tabletop quality\" to me means you wouldn\'t be ashamed to field it against opponents who aren\'t already your good friends. Sadly, this idea is not helpful for voting here (I would consider 5.5-6 to be my personal minimum tabletop standard - if I was a gamer!) so I try and vote by the de facto community standards we seem to have established here (i.e. 5=neatly painted, some shading, some basing, generally doesn\'t look like ass).
This too is how I\'ve voted. In fact, I find it hard to give a lower than 5 vote for any mini that looks like it was covered and attempted to be shaded and highlighted, unless it\'s super clumpy. (though, I\'d rather see solid black eyes than really bad ones)
I do vote lower on pix that are small enough that I believe they easily hide flaws, and that includes some of the minis that seem to rate really high with others. When I see someone post are large and up-close-and-personal image of their minis, I\'ve gotta give credit for the risk they are taking.
I do notice that on the other end of the spectrum, some people give 10s too easily. I think a 1-4 should really mean the mini is slightly embarassing and a 10 is really something special.
I do think browsing at 7+ is a mistake, there are some really interesting minis on this site which score between 5-6 *cough including some of mine cough cough*. Though recent events make me want to browse at 4+ at least![]()
None of this is for me to say that there aren\'t some minis here that really are horrible. Honestly, I wonder what\'s on the mind of someone who posts a mini that\'s got large places without even paint on the thing, or whatnot, but the fact that there are such LOW end/quality minis on here, I find it impossible to justify some people\'s rating scales where they will damn near arbitrarily rate one a 1 or 2 for being as I described and then give a 3 or 4 to one that HAS been neatly done with attempts at shading, highlighting, etc.
As for my low participation in the forums... well, I usually find what I want without needing to ask and for the most part, I don\'t have a lot to offer tip wise as I\'m still not up to par with some others that do put together quality tutorials and commentary.
