hi all, im about to foray into sculpting and i want to as prepared as i can. i have gs and milliput, but i was wondering, what are the best putties one can buy in the uk/ i know that this is largely a matter of personal opinion, but nay advice would be greatly appreciated:beer:

i personally use gs, milliput, procreate, magic sculp and apoxie sculpt
also fimo but that has to be heat cured

There are so many factors, the most significant of which is simply personal preference (which is partly based on experience and skillset). The archived threads are your friend - do a search, lots of previous threads on putties that I can remember with any number of good posts.

tbh i go through phases of preferring a particular putty . atm i am using a lot of fimo (for bulking out bigger stuff) and an apoxie sculpt or magic sculp / gs mix

i find its all too easy to begin to hoard different types of putty. for now, id concentrate on getting to grips with what you have as green stuff in particular is great and you may soon discover its all you need...
having said that, brown kneadatite is great for more \'inorganic\' shapes (swords etc) and ive found procreate is great for detail (like faces), but doesnt always stick too easily... both are good mixed 50:50 with green stuff too.
i find brown stuff easier to get the desired results with than green. i do like procreate but it seems tough to get a smooth finish on large areas, so i wouldnt personally use it on a whole mini.
if your feeling fruity you can always mix epoxy and hardener from different putties: eg yellow (from green stuff) and white (from brown stuff) or blue and brown. this will give different (and interesting) results plus works well for visualising your mini as you can use different colours for different parts :bouncy:

I completely agree about hoarding different kinds of putty, every time I go into Michaels (a craft store we have in the USA) I see they have different putty / clay / epoxy on sale and sometimes it is so cheap that it is worth the buy to just try it out
