What RPG is your favorite?

Have you guys alaso noticed how the group dynamic always seem to stay the same no matter what rpg you play? Like, one guy is always the barbarian type, one is always the sneaky bastard, another is always some insane type of charachter.
Me, I\'m always a down to earth kinda type, low status,, always ranger or rogue, always human (my only elf died the first time I used her lol) and my charachter\'s family has always died some gruesome death. This isn\'t anything I\'ve thought out, it just happens automatically. Just recently I made a total random charachter, and yep, it became a low status human lol

In some ways, but I have had quite a varied selection of characters.

1) Dumb but good hearted paladin.
2) Evil bastard mage with a penchant for raising his dead enemies as zombies.
3) Elf wardancer with a deathwish.
4) Heroic Knight youngest son of a Lord.
5) A mass murdering Hannibal Lector/Jack the Ripper doctor, who\'s murders the party were trying to solve, very entertaining performing an autopsy for your party on someone you had killed. \"Well whoever did this was a professional.\" hehehe
6) The aformentioned young female dragon masquerading as a 16 year old girl, again pretty funny as she had no idea how tough and strong she was, she spent a lot of time acting like a scared teenager, even when swords would bounce off her.

Yeah- I\'ve been playing so long I seem to be a bit of everything.
Monk- sneaky ninja type guy.
Paladin- super charged run strait at them mounted combat expert. Try getting a crit with a lance charging added with monster str. (ouch)
Mage- smart problem solver. Lots of neat pets too.
Cleric- pious prude. Great fighter though.
Rangers- lots of them.
Thief- when I was like 13 yrs old, probably was like a 13yr old.
Multiclassers galore(elves)
Barbarian- kaarunch!

I can\'t believe no one has mentioned RuneQuest yet. :D

Okay, it\'s not my favorite, but it\'s the first RPG I played. It\'s too hard to pick a favorite. I play a lot of d20 these days, but I have a real soft spot for Fantasy Hero.

Ah, RuneQuest. Only played that once, and didn\'t feel like doing it again. ;)

Rolemaster was another one that I did only once. :|~

My current group doesn\'t seem to have the \"always playing the same character type\" problem. We\'re all a bunch of freaks that play all kinds of wacky characters...

Back when I played RPGs I was the DM for our RuneQuest games. Someone else did the GURPS, another guy ran D&D, another ran Dr. Who/Star Trek. The list went on. That way no one actually had to learn the rules to more than one game but we got to play tons of systems.

Now the only RPG I still own is TWERPS (The World\'s Easiest Role Playing System).
The rules are like one page. You get one stat: Strength. I\'ll have to dig it out and quote from the back of the rules. It\'s pretty darn funny.

As to type of character, I\'ve played everything I think. My favorite may have been the fat, lazy, Ars Magica earth mage (who I came up with because in one campaign we all died because we couldn\'t cross a river so I made a guy who could build a damn bridge!)
Another good one was when we built a team for GURPS spy with each character in the team maxing out on one stat. My guy was the INT maxer (with full photographic memory and max INT you can learn every INT skill in the game with like 1/8 point to it- but he couldn\'t fire a gun worth a damn). The only guy who may have had more fun was the max DEX guy.
Then I liked the GURPS horrors character I used for GURPS supers - he only had 2 abilities: duplicate self and werewolf - he would transform from a man into 2 big shaggy monsters!

Played a system that a good friend made up (because D&D wasn\'t technical enough), but doing the math sucked.

I know some people don\'t like 3E, but for those of us who are math challenged it\'s much more fun to play the game when you\'re not worrying about all the rolls (which die do I use, do I want a high or low number...) Now I can really get into the game.

@Modderhu - how the heck did your count get so high when I wasn\'t looking! I think I\'m going to regret accepting your count challenge!

Types of players

I have this thing in print-out from about 12 years ago or so when I got it by email, and thought I\'d type it in, but someone may have beat me to it.
I found this web page that looks like the same thing, but haven\'t checked to verify.
Anyway, it defines 4 types of players and is worth a read:

REAL MEN, REAL ROLEPLAYERS, LOONIES & MUNCHKINS

Ah yes Runequest, looked through it was a fun read, but never played.

Another one that comes to mind is Judge Dread, now that was a blast, literally. I loved being able to say \"I am the Law!\"

I also played in a 40k roleplaying game, rules were based of off Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, with a few minor adjustments.
