What the heck is up in England?

Dark Side of the Moon..............sorry Oasis, you will NEVER come close. Go on WWF and fight yer brother.

I think voters might of been confused. I think they thought they were voting on worst album of all time... hence Oasis.

While I love Dark Side of the Moon, I personally don\'t think its Pink Floyds best album. I would researve that for The Wall. With Comfortly Numb being their best song on the album.

These polls basically mean nothing! A couple of years ago Radiodhead\'s \"OK Computer\" was voted best album ever in a similar poll and that Oasis album was out then too.

These polls are dependent on who votes and how old these people are. It\'s quite unlikely that people in their 20s would vote for stuff from the 60s, for instance.

but the difference between these two polls is that Radioheads \"OK Computer\" actually is one of the best albums ever! :D

Meh... it\'s all subjectivity and conjecture.
The first album definitely has its merits but personally I prefer their second album. I stopped listening to them after that though because I refused to give any more of my life to such a pair of swaggering chumps.

However, 40 000 people voted which is not an insignificant amount and remember it\'s mainly a British vote.
Rightly or wrongly, Oasis are definitely (maybe) more popular in the UK than Radiohead.

Hey, don\'t blame England. The NME was involved in it, which should tell you everything you need to know. It\'s going to be a list full of a lot of shite, as NME is beyond laughable in the levels of badness it achieves. All you need to do is put \'The\' before your band name and the NME will instantly herald you as the next big thing. I wouldn\'t use its pages to wipe my bottom!

OK, rant over! Oh and Ritual, I think it depends on who the person is. I\'m 25 and I would have to put Ogden\'s Nut Gone by the Small Faces (1968), Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys (1966) and Hunky Dory by Bowie (OK, so it\'s 1971 but close enough) in my top list along with more recent stuff.

@lono
I said \"unlikely\", not \"impossible\"! ;)

I too listen to stuff from before I was born (Bowie\'s early stuff, for instance), but most people stick to what they have experienced first-hand.

One thing to note about Dark Side of the Moon is that (my numbers might be a tad off but the point is still there), whereas most albums go \'on the charts\' and then off again fairly quickly, Dark Side of the Moon was on the top 100 selling albums for 20 years.....nuff said.

Fing is see, Definitely, Maybe did happen to catch a mood at the time. It\'s their best work by far and as a 17yr old I listened to it everyday and still think it\'s a cracking album. Considering I can\'t stand the bastards, that\'s a great indicator of what the first album was like. Irregardless of how shite they are now, that first album was a little beauty.

And remember, it\'s only a poll...:]

I dunno, as an album, I think Dark Side of the Moon surpasses The Wall, However, as a song, Comfortably Numb is my all time favorite. :D Oh, and Pink Floyd was robbed!!!

What bollocks. Oasis make me so angry. It\'s like Kaiser Chiefs winning the Brits this year :|~ So depressing...

Well for me though I love Floyd I would have to pick Led Zeppelin\'s the Four Symbols, every track is a classic from start to finish, that I feel is not the same with Dark Side of the Moon, though The Wall comes close. Also I would add The Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden.

Ha ha - The Brits are just the musical equivalent of the Oscars ie they mean nowt. Some of the greatest actors/directors are Oscarless whilst total numptys have statues to their names.

2 reasons Kaiser Chiefs are OK;
1) They\'re from Leeds
2) They\'re Leeds United fans (being named after Leeds \'legend\' Lucas Radebe\'s old club in South Africa so I\'m hideously biased).

Utterly and unashamedly pathetically parochial I admit but c\'est la vie (as we don\'t say in Yorkshire)

(* edit* apologies for the preposterous alliteration)

I remember a radio special in ...oh, about 1980, listing the 50 greatest rock bands of all time. I don\'t remember the criteria.

#2.... the Beatles

#1.....Queen

And The Velvet Underground are a better bet than all this Pink Floyd talk.

Hey Rev,
I think that\'s just a matter of personal taste. Sure while it\'s true that the music of (early) Velvet Underground is awesome I\'d personally prefer to listen to Pink Floyd.

Early Floyd with Syd Barrett also makes for some trippy listening. Check out \'Pipers at the Gates Of Dawn\'. Have you seen \"Live At Pompei\"? Awesome!! Apologies.. I\'m a huge Floyd fan from way back!

In answer to the question of this thread. Som much c00l music continues to come out of the good ol\' motherland.

Don\'t get me started on British Blues...
