i worked in a restaurant. washing up etc. paid VERY well considering. boss was really volatile but great. used to divide the tips up fairly and would give you a meal at the end of the night. once my parents and i have an argument and they refused to feed me so she cooked me a venison steak and veg before i started so i would have enough strength! god i miss that.

now i work in the nhs where they are removing drink and snack machines because they are unhealthy. so when you are hungry in the middle of a 24hr shift (and the canteen isnt open for another 5hrs) you are screwed. a big thank you to the cretin who came up with that one

Humm, not sure which counts as an actual \'job\':

As a youth (pre-teen) while other kids had a lemonade stand and such I had a comic book stand at the corner of my property. Odd part is I never really read comics as a kid but I knew others did so I acquired old comics by the pound and resold them. Experienced my first robbery that way too when a couple kids rode up on their bikes, one sucker punched me while the other grabbed the cash.

Worked for mom at her video store as a teen. Weekend store clerk and such. That one made me popular with some people at junior high school as the boys would come in and I would rent them porn (for a premium of course).

First \'job\' in the traditional sense and not for family wasn\'t till my 20s when I worked as a salesman for a computer wholesaler.

BTW... Working for family definitely is not all punch and pie. :drunk:

I dishwashed for a whole summer, after my freshman year of uni. T\'was a grimy job, exhausting and greasy. The restaurant did a lot of big weddings so I was scrubbing away at baking pans at 2 am on many a Saturday night! (and then back again for the brunch shift)

But even though the chef kept me well-fed for free (thanks Wayne you big softie!) I still went from 220 lb in May to 180 in September, effectively ending the \"fat guy\" phase of my life :)

1. LOL. You scoundrel! I wish I\'d had that opportunity, but I\'m not much of a risk-taker so the possibility of getting in big trouble would likely have dissuaded me :p

2. Working for family... hmm. Being expected to go the extra mile for free, and having your boss show up at all major holiday functions... I see your point.

My first job was working at on a yew farm(don\'t know if this is the right word, the grew yews(tree) there). I picked weeds, rake around the trees, dig out small yews and put them on a truck. It was hard work, working 8 hours in the sun, I think I was 12 or 13 then. But a made a lot of money(well, for my age :p)

Now I work at an Italian coffeehouse. I make coffee, make Italian breads and tapas(spanish and italian fingerfoods), serving the foods and drinks to costumers. On fridays we sell a salad and pasta menu for a good price, I help make the salads and pasta\'s and I serve it to the costumers. On some saterdays we have wine tastings. All I have to do then is drink wine and entertain the costumers, talk with them etc, make tapas and do some cleaning. And occasionally we cater at parties, I really like doing that. It\'s a nice job, with nice colleges, friendly costumers and my boss is very laid back ;)

First job, like so many others - paperboy. I also made money on the side installing ham radio towers for the local CB/Ham Radio nuts. Wasn\'t nothing for me to clamber up on those roof\'s and wire down 60\' antenna poles. Wouldn\'t do it today though - I know what mortality is now.

Being from the midwest myself, I\'ve done this one too. I think everyone out here has at least once.

Everyone I know who grew up in the county instead of the city here did Corn De-tasseling. Tecumseh is the Corn Capital of Canada, with a yearly Corn Fest and all that stuff. Thankfully I just had to hassel people over the phone :D

my first job was working with family outside in the gardens. I hated it as a kid, with a passion. but I grew to really enjoy it. I don\'t accept family money for pay

my first job outside of the family was at the local college I attended, I worked for student services and i made flyers for activities, monthly calenders, powerpoint programs for groups, things like that. that one made me 8 an hour

today? I help home school my little brother.

Here he is hard at work;

Now my first job, other than the odd babysitting job, was as a clerk in a craft store. I got a %20 discount on everything in the store. What I wouldn\'t give to have that today! I left because I got a job in fast food that had more hours. Minimum wage at the time was $2.50 and hour. It\'s $8.00 now. Alex is making $11.00. Boy do times change!

What was your first job?

 Liz, is it just me or has that kid put on some muscle ???

Yup. If he ever stopped playing video games long enough to go to a gym he\'d be a natural body builder. He\'s a messo-morph like his daddy and I. Naturally packs on muscle instead of fat. The kid weighs 225 and is 6\'1\" but doesn\'t look that heavy.

Of course I\'ve done everything I can to prove that wrong with myself and over the years have managed to padd out really well (I\'m as big as a house). :(
