Ooo, was thinking last night and came up with a couple more suggestions, if she hasn\'t already read them:
The Nightwatch series by Sergei Lukyanenko. Modern-day good versus evil tales set (mainly) in Moscow. Highly entertaining; please ignore any comparisons to J. K. Rowling or the Potter boy series. Thankfully, they\'re nothing alike. Well, except for the presence of magic. That\'s it.
The Deverry series by Katherine Kerr. I really enjoyed the first four books. The next few kinda lost me (too many elves for my taste, and too many of the characters I liked from the first books had died off), but I\'m told it picks up again later on. Someone who likes elves might enjoy the latter books more than I did, but it\'s perfectly possible to stop reading after book 4 and be completely satisfied.
