Well.. it\'s simple enough to grasp finn... would we take on the French way with having both a president and a prime minister... or would all laws and matters of state be simply voted on by the commons (who watches the watchmen).... what would happen to the House of Lords, the civil service and the C of E, who would we put on our stamps ^^ what would happen to the commonwealth... fairly big constitutional upheaval if you ask me.

In return, I can never understand the blanket comment of \'just get rid of em... they do f**k all anyway\'...

We already have an elected lower house and the HOL is moving towards being a 100% elected body anyway. So not a great deal of upheaval there.

The civil service answer to government already, so that aint a problem. As for the Commonwealth, I can\'t see what difference a monarchy makes. It\'s a throwback of an institution anyway...

As for who goes on our stamps and money, who cares? Great British institutions like Tommy Cooper or Noddy Holder if you ask me :D

The whole \'constitutional upheaval\' thing is as much of a white elephant as the monarchy itself. The Queen is just a mascot.

Don\'t get me started on Harry\'s indescretions either. The kid must be a total prat to keep putting his foot in it. I don\'t give a shite if he\'s young or trying to be \'normal\'. Fact is he aint normal. He never will be. Whether he\'s earned the money himself or not, I still get an image of him stuffing £50 notes of taxpayers money into some tart\'s thong.....

We don\'t have a constitution...it is all decided \'on the fly\'. It\'s simply a matter of crossing out some words and inserting others. Dead easy really... As for who do we put on the stamps??? Is that really a major concern. How about Elton John...he\'s a queen?

Of course we have a constitution - it\'s called British Constitutional law ... just because it isn\'t written down and codified, doesn\'t make any difference... we have a constitutional monarchy and a parliament that effects reform as and when needed and voted on.

We have the right to elect once every five years - the queen has to pass every bill before it becomes law (she does have the power to veto bills - just never does - but can theoretically)

The stamp comment was obviously tongue-in-cheek.

I\'m not a royalist by any serious conviction but I\'d rather have the system we currently have to the alternative.

The monarchy are a joke, I\'m with Finn on the whole \"line \'em up and shoot them\" thing.

As for Harry trying to be normal, what a crock of shite, he\'s following in a thousand year old British aristocratic tradition - become an army officer. He\'s still on the \"conveyor belt\", and I seriously doubt he\'ll ever get off it.

I can honestly say, my business doesn\'t incorporate any kind of monarchy... just 1 labourer and a brickie and neither of which you\'d really describe as queens ;)

If you mean are all my contracts in writing, then no. Most are but occassionaly some are verbal... makes no difference though as they are binding.

Monarchy?

I really don\'t like the idea of this monarchy stuff. They\'re just figure heads. Without them, Our daily browse of the newspaper would be shorter (not by much). I really don\'t wanna pickup a news paper talking about how a figurehaed got into a drunken bar fight. I wanna pick up the newspaper and read about how the queen shot a man in the Face with an Ithaca 12 gauge shotgun. lol

Noone claimed the army route wasn\'t traditional.
The \"trying to be normal\" was aimed at the tabloid stories on Harry doing things, that if it were I, Spacemunkie, Finn, Dragonsreach, or pretty much anybody, would not be stories at all.
I find nothing wrong with the kid, he has done nothing that kids his age don\'t normally do.
He didn\'t ask to be prince, he didn\'t pursue the fame, he didn\'t ask the press to be in his life.

lol :rolleyes: same old dull rhetoric... I don\'t like paying income tax for a great number of things and I\'m guessing that the royals probably feel the same way :]

Can\'t really figure out what the fuss about the royals is all about. Can\'t se any use for them, either.

Now we\'ve got a common married to the crown prince of DK, the newspapers are in a constant tizzy along with all the old ladies who read the weekly rags at the hairdresser. Who cares.

Make them do a real day\'s work and give them a regular wage. God knows they\'re already on the dole.

But come on, you\'re judging a person, a kid, that has no say in the matter, that has no control of the matter. A kid that was born, and has never, ever once in his life been considered normal. A kid who seems to want to be more \"of the people\" than anyone else in his family has for generations.
A kid that cannot just goof off and be a kid, because of the standards that you yourself are pushing on him.
You stand there and talk about how you don\'t need them, that they\'re useless, that they\'re no different than anyone else, yet you expect different behavior from this kid over other kids.
How would you like every move you make scrutinized and critisized by everyone because you don\'t meet up to a standard that you never asked to be judged by.
You are setting them apart from the people by pushing that standard instead of just accepting them as people.

And I would guarantee, that as an American, I pay more than enough income taxes to keep more people than just a royal family in their accustomed lifestyles, we have our own chavs, and we have many, many more on the government dole.

Ironically the royal family arent even royalty.

The last real king England had was Richard III.

The real king of England lives in Australia somewhere
