Who let the dogs out

Next up for me is my Skin Wolf Pack, they are prepped ready to have the extensive greenstuff work....they weren't the best casts and after my recent complaints to FW Customer Services over the Tartaros Terminator I deceided to sod it just fix them myself rather than wait for a replacement as they seemed very busy.

I don't like bashing GW or FW but the quality of the last two FW purchases have been shocking to a point I am unlikely to buy from them again, the finecast resin was, well, dog turd quite frankly. Upside, the sculpting on these is great and the detailing is lovely so hopefully with a little work to repair the miscasting I can make something out of them.

Just seen you post these on facebook and it got me quite excited these have been in and out my shopping basket at least 5 times since they were launched i think i may just end up buying them after this i've got loads of ideas in my head for painting them.

Looking forward to what you do with them and its a shame about the duff casts. Hopefully see you down at GD this year.

Will be interesting to see these painted.

And it makes me sad to hear about issues with FW casting. I have allways liked the studf they make....hope my nezt order from them is allright.

Heh - I, too was planning on doing a group of these as a regiment for GDJ (next year) but since you're doing them I may have to find an alternative, as they're only ever going to be a distant shadow of whatever you can pull off with them. Incidentally, I count 4 wolves in that picture. Don't there need to be 5 for a regiment entry? Or is that what the space at the front/middle is for?

Regardless, I'm looking forward to seeing what you can do with these guys. Skell, too - I reckon these minis would suit your style perfectly. I wait with bated breath...

Started the skin wolves at last.............

Been waiting for decent casts of these and FW have finally swapped these back to the old resin and old casting method rather than the finecast that was well in keeping with the subject matter dogs**te

I am not happy with this at all........

My original inspiration was

underworld-rise-of-the-lycans-20090501034914260_640w.jpg

The lycans from Underworld (ummm Kate Beckinsale in leather....back in a bit need a cold shower). Some how the idea was perverted beyond all recognition through trying to be too clever and overthink things.......

So I have stripped them and will start again doing them like the the original. I think it will work a hell of a lot better and there will be a lot of contrast between the dark skin and fur of the wolf and the torn shreds of human skin.

So the lesson I have learnt from this is simplicity and go with my initial thoughts.

I worked on the repaint of the skin going a whole lot darker.

Thoughts?

I think it looks not only heaps better but also it will look normal (as normal as flayed skin on a werewolf can look) when the other "skin" gets done

Thanks pal.

Worked on the 2nd one last night, was a nightmare because it was stinking hot in my painting room so the paint was drying pretty much instantly it hit the model, and there was a small airforce of moths divebombing my face!!!!!

skintone is very suitable! something with the eyes though, i believe they would look more sinister with like glowing eyes, or something. to avoid puppyness ;) matter of taste though, keep up the good work!
damn i want to paint these too now!
