Not a great fan of the cracked armour effect on the Dread, although the mini as a whole is really nicely painted. The Ork mek is lovely. Just the right feel for a mek and the base is perfect for the figure. The witch is again a nicely painted mini, although for me a little bit of tree or a bush on the larger bit of plinth would help the overall effect even if it wouldn't fit on the standard base.

Why the mek at least didn't make first cut is a testament to the scatter gun nature of this years judging (plenty of other threads on that topic). It certainly looks better than some of the other entries that did make the cut.

I dig the mek, and the little saying on the plaque is awesome!

Really good 'dark' feel to the Mek and the dredd. And the hair on the elf is really well done.

Sorry, I can't think of any real criticism.

Congrats on the pin win Winterdyne :good:

I really like the dark palette pf the Orc whilst maintaining clear definition of the detail, good stuff :)

Cheers, B.

All of these models look lovely to me. The dread is my favourite, although the cracked armour effect is painted really well, I would have to say it would appeal more to me without it. Right, off to vote then.....

I like the technique on the dred but I would tend to agree that the cracked armor isn't my personal favorite. Thankfully though I look at technique more then my own choices. The mech was nice would have been a solid first cut, and the wood elf was honestly eh. I know you pumped those last two out so I am sure you are not too suprised on them. Either or solid work all around, and better luck next year I would say.

I Do love a good dread, and while the cracked armor isn't totally effective at being a fully cracked suit (maybe because its on every part of it)... I think the texture you achieved with it is fantastic. Only thing i would say... maybe a bit of highlighting on the top edges of the golden wings? I Think the Tyranid Carapaces would be better off in a color thats not Blue. Minor details, I love the figures, awesome job.

With the cracking (not the white trompe l'oeil) I was going for a deliberate texture thing rather than a damage thing, which is why the cracks are really quite regular - all the pieces are more or less the same size. The blue carapace similarly is to tie it in with fluff (annoyingly red skin / blue shelled 'nids). The red got dropped to keep it looking very old rather than a fresh corpse, and to allow the use of a red spot colour on the banner itself. The wings are pure mithril silver on the top surface... Probably should have lightened the front at the top a bit. Next week I'll be working on a chaplain dread to accompany this one (same standard of paintwork) so I'll get to have a play with my gold technique...

Got to say I love the colours on your Ork. It's just a shame that the more realistic shading style wasn't favored this year.

Great piece though, lovely to view at GD and on here.
