This is looking super, I am enjoying all the updates :)

Thanks mates!

Yeah, those cannons were a pain, especially the part where the moulding on the wheels on them were so bad I had to make the decision to keep them ugly instead of making 120 new wheels on an area I won't see at all when it's done. It's kinda hurting my OCD knowing they're there but if I would have started making my own wheels I'd go insane.

The Liquid GS is really awesome, only really started using it on this build and it's great, a bit messy since it pretty much sticks everywhere except where you want it at first, just like normal GS but liquid. XD

Your project gave me back some old memories of when I have build this ship a (very, very) long time ago. Sadly the finished model took a bad crash when I moved from town. It was a sad day then :crying:. It took me 3 years after that accident before deciding to save some parts and dump the rest. Just make sure you have a safe space for this big baby when it is finished, it makes a superb decorative piece!

Keep up the good work! :highfive:

yeah, I'm gonna build me a "small" display cabinet just for this girl when she's done, hopefully it won't get too heavy...
Have I mentioned how much I hate you lately? Looking damn good so far.

Why thank you! I think that just might be the nicest hatemail I've ever gotten! :D

C'mere kids! Gather round, it's storytelling time! Yes Cass, that means you too, just because you're old doesn't mean you can't sit down! ;)

Last post in October; damn, time flies like a murder of crows towards a carcass. Speaking of, there's a murder of maybe 2-300 jackdaws nesting just a hundred meters or so outside the window of my new apartment. They make quite a bit of noise when they feel like it! There's been a lot going on between then and now, to start with I finally got a stable employment in October, albeit only on 50% but it's a start. In November I moved to a new apartment and packing up took a -lot- longer than I had planned, last time I moved we were two and had a plan, this time I was just getting away.
Sadly the ship was damaged in the move and since I was using it as a way to increase my already lacking motivation my pride and will took a pretty heavy hit. Again. So, I placed it on a shelf to sit there and ponder its wrongdoings.
In December my woman came to visit and stayed until January, since we don't see each other very often I put everything aside to be with her as much as possible.
January came and I felt that something had to be done about the slight depression I had so I started to once again force myself to paint and clean and build and do stuff. It's amazing how hard it is to cheer yourself up when you're not quite certain why you're down but I managed to work up an interest in the hobby again.
Last month is when I really saw things taking a turn for the better.
It stopped being difficult to grab the brush and tools and the ideas started coming naturally again. (I've got a bunch of painted wolves to post in the other thread actually) And after a while I started looking at the ship again. When I looked at her with fresh eyes I realised the damage wasn't even close to as catastrophical as I had thought it was when it happened and soon the work in progress was back to almost where I left it, with just a few pieces missing. But that's just a great opportunity to show you my awesome skills at plasticard doodling.
Some time during the year I'll be moving again, this time to change cities and get me a full time employment in a smaller city. If I'm lucky I'll be able to afford a small house there and then I can just maybe finally start acting out on other small dreams I've had.
And that's that basically, there's been a lot going on and there's more coming but for now I've got a few moments where I can relax and get back to doing what I enjoy again.

(Yes, there'll be updates pretty soon, and yes, better ones, with pictures. :p )

Glad things are looking more positive. Shame about the ship, maybe you will get it out of dry dock when your ready :)

i dig that reading. except the line "smaller city" . i thought we had an agreement! that said, i guess you have to earn quite a lot to get a small house over here, lol.

you can always orkify the ship if its too damaged ;) anyway, looking forward to see some images!

Damn!!!
I'm impressed with the amount of work and care you're taking with this Chrome, coming together as smartly as Rare Earth Magnets.

Just looking at this thread and the model is making my desire to make a Steampunk airship even more intense.
I have some concepts in mind as I don't want it to just be a ship hanging off a dirigible......:quiet:

Thanks!
I've had the same thoughts about an old Cutty Sark model I've had lying about for ages, it was a slightly boring model to play with so the construction is slow to say the least. Then again, I've got an old Spanish galleon model that is starting to collect a wee bit of dust and that has seen its fair share of repair work over the years, those do have a very interesting hull shape that I think might be quite perfect for the fantasy/steampunk style airship. :D

Good luck moving. It's a shame to hear about the damage to the ship and the depression, but it sounds like you're working through both by working on the ship.

Maybe the house in the smaller city will have a proper fireplace with a mantle (one can dream, right?) to rest this beauty on.

Hope this cheers you up, my friend.

I have very fond memories of this model.
I built and rigged this kit my senior year in high school. ( 1975 - 1976 )
I am one of 6 children and my late father never had time to spend with us.
He was always working or working on the house ( to make it big enough for 8 ).
He gave me time he didn't have to do some of the rigging with me.
Of all the models I built in my youth ( mostly monsters, cars, tanks and motorcycles )
this ( and the Aurora Wanderer Whaler ) were the kits that caught his interest.
I think he was as proud of this model finished as I was. Nice memory.
Thanks for bringing it all back :)

I'm enjoying your progress so far and look forward to seeing it all come together.

One of these days, I am going to get to my Heller "Le Chebec".

The Chebec is an awesomely good looking model! I'll add that to my wish list I believe. :)

And yeah, that is a great story. The best models aren't always the ones made with the most skill but the ones that brings back the best memories. :)

Oh, and Skels, It's way easier to grab a train and visit eachother from that other city. Direct trains as often as there are local buses. ;)

Speaking of pictures and repairs, I had a missing gun port lid and I decided that I should scratch build it instead of moulding just to work up my skills a bit.
I did feel quite a bit rusty but I believe it went quite well despite that.
