Wanted to put up a fun little WIP for a rework of something I picked up cheap. Ever seen something after starting this hobby and thought, \"I could do better\"?
My son has really gotten into Bakugan (a Pokemon send up, with little balls that pop open and \"battle\" with cards and such). Well, if anybody else has a child with this affliction, you probably know the little toy balls that one could buy have been THE thing to have this year and are sold out.
But! Sitting next to those forlorn, empty hooks are lots and lots of \"collectible figurines\". They all look \"Pro Painted\", but hey, they\'re $2.99 each. So, I picked up this little guy: Preyas (link to image). Placed next to a Space Marine, he\'s just a tad taller in real height. If he were standing up, he\'d be probably 1.5x-2x as tall as a SM. So, would be a right nasty monster to encounter.
The following is the base reference photos (I\'m going to mostly keep the color scheme, although probably going to move colors around a bit), a primed picture, and after two coats of the \"Vivid Violet\" base color over a foundation base of Astronomican Grey.
Future plans are to give a bit more base color to coat (I was painting in a half dark room with the kids, so between the bad lighting and having to close and open their paints, I missed a lot), then use some Tentacle Pink to highlight up. I\'ll move over to a dark blue (probably some Breonne Navy) for the head, with that highlighted with Enchanted Blue and the same color doing the body spots. I\'m not going to match where the cartoon puts them. I\'m going to go for a bit more of a \"realistic creature\" type scheme, picking out the details and armor-ish bits in blue.
The base is the really hard part. I don\'t play, so I don\'t really care what it looks like. So, suggestions on what to do with that would be welcome. I\'m thinking I may just repaint it black and call it done. It\'ll probably get handed to the kids, so it won\'t be a display piece. Unless I really like the job I did. In which case, I\'ll have to run to Target and get another one.
Okay, too long winded. Here\'s pictures:
