Hey, I reset that! :D The Netherlands is NOT Belgium!
In general we frown upon the dutch with their weird pronounciations, rude attitudes (disclaimer: generalization, I dó know some friendly dutchmen but they all emigrated to Belgium) and lousy, lousy dutch beer (Heineken is dishwater compared to àny Belgian beer).

No offense taken though, we Belgians are used to be considered the underdog even though one of the three inventors of the internet was a Belgian ànd we invented the saxophone) :D
Patriotism is rare in Belgium, except versus the French, Germans and Dutch...

YO Tony lo fat!!
Its time to get this beast finished and roll it out onto the battlefield!
Right now it a lot of snack and little workshop (direct translate of swedish saying).
So stop sniffing the super attack and start painting, or im coming over and paint it for you (when you sleep, but ill probably end up painting a shoe or something in the darkness)!!

*sobs* Sorry for the lack of updates people. :(
My phone broke down a while ago so I haven\'t had a camera to take pics with and the weather decided to become bearable so people started to spend time with me which seriously killed the time I needed for building. But, I work tomorrow, some painting will be done then and I hope pictures will be up tomorrow evening or on Sunday.
Got the new phone today and it seems that with a wee bit of preparation I can finally get damn crisp pictures. Couldn\'t be at a better time since it\'s, with a few exceptions, only details left on the thing now.

Ok! The first slaps of paint on the tank! (except that primed engine but I don\'t count that one. lol)

This is my very first try at OSL(?) if it works out I will paint the entire interior this way.

Not completely done but I think you get the idea:

So, besides from lynching me for not posting as often as I should, please give me some advice on improvement for the OSL...

Well, having never tried that point lighting technique I can\'t actually comment on the technique itself but for the, the effect is there quite well.
Especially the frontal shot is very convincing. Perhaps the highlights could be blended just a tad more to feather the gradients but on the other hand, the harsh highlighting does emulate a bright light quite well too.

I\'m sure it\'ll look aces when put in place with the added real light as well.

Heya people, once again I have to apologize for the lack of updates, commissions, weather and various demands from people telling me I have to be social and stuff (what nerve eh? lol) Ah, well. The updating might be slow but I do work on the tank, I promise! Here we have a small update:

The cannon is coming up nicely, and I believe it will be quite the bright one when done as well! :D

The Tom Waits song \'What is he building in there\' pops to mind :D

Good to see that you\'re still thinkering on mate!

The good weather has been keeping me from doing any painting as well, and hey, summer isn\'t thàt bad ey. ;)

Definitely, I\'d love the summer if it wasn\'t for the heat and my solar allergies. lol Every time I forget my sunglasses at home I spend the rest of the day sneezing like crazy.

Tom Waitz is one straange but awesome musician!

I am working with it, I just got one major payment for one of my commissions making it top priority, above anything else, so the tank gets what it needs when the greenstuff is drying on the other piece.

Oh, and Meph? Check your U2U. lol

wow, this just keeps getting better and better.

I have one question to ask though.
Seeing this great build has caused me to decide to add some lighting to my new russ, but i just cant keep the LED to shine as brightly as i\'d like.

ATM i\'m using three button cell batteries..... i bought a AAA holder and battery, but cant get the LED to do anything at all.

while my electronics skills are rudimentary at best compared to yours, i have succesfully added a light to a land Raider some years back (although that light inexplicably broke down over those years)

is there any trick to getting an LED to work on a AAA battery, or is there some trick to get it to shine brighter using the three button cells?

Well, the max light from a LED is determined by its Ampere value, and to reach that limit you have to know its Voltage requirements.
So, if your LED only shines with, say, 5mA you wont get it to shine very brightly no matter how much juice you add (unless you add too much and it gets extremely light for a nanosecond, goes pop and then it smells like hell the rest of the day. lol).

Take the ones I use for example: their \"statline\" is 3V and 20mA. Which basically means that when they are fed 3 Volts they shine with 20mA.
So, assuming your button cells are 1,5V each as the most common ones are, that would mean that you would get 4,5V out of them and therefore make LED\'s of the size I am using pop(or in a best case scenario, only shine a very short time) if I wouldn\'t have a resistor in the circuit or if the diodes used demands say 6V you wouldn\'t get them to shine bright at all.

When testing my contraptions I use a homemade battery pack made from two AAA batteries taped together so that I get the nominal 3V for my LED\'s and they light up fully.
But(![!!]), connecting them directly to a power source fatally reduces the life length of a diode, making them last a very short time compared to what they should( and would), you should always add a resistor to the circuit!

what resistance your diodes need is calculated this way:
R=U/I Resistance=Voltage/Current

Voltage is calculated easily by taking the amount of Volt from the battery and subtract the amount used by the diodes. My Situation:
I use a 9V battery in my tank and my diodes crave 3V each, using one diode I get 9-3 which sums it up to 6V left in the circuit.
R=6/I

The Current is the Ampere the Diode uses. In my example:
my diodes have 20mA, 20 milliampere, which converted is 0.020 Ampere.
R=6/0.02

And this means that the optimal resistance for my circuit is 300 Ohm.

But even if you use the exact amount of volt the diode demands you would still need to add a resistor even if you get 0.0 in the calculations, this to prevent the diode taking damage to power fluctuations which constantly occur. And as long as the resistor isn\'t so strong that it totally blocks the entire current you basically get the LED to light up at full strength since it doesn\'t light up in a linear fashion like a light bulb does(Warning: technical overdose here, let\'s just leave it at that and be happy. lol It still works).

I feel I started off on a minor rant here, I hope I made some sense and that it gave you some kind of answer to why you wont get your LED\'s to light up as strong as you want even though I didn\'t actually give you a direct answer at all. As you can see there are a few factors that might be the problem.

Oh, and another thing, this is probably rater redundant to mention but still, if you connect a diode backwards it wont do anything at all, Anode to + and cathode to -, that\'s the only way to go.

I am off to work now so see you later guys!

That is all interesting and technically correct, but when I think of lights I think in lumens, so how many lumens do your LEDs give off?

That is something also important to think about when working with an LED to shine through a translucent or opaque material right?

So with the LED tutorial out of the way, I am anxiously waiting on what part comes next on this beast!

If I had the money to and was going to light something up I would put a crank on it, rather than with batteries, or use magnets and a capacitor and just use magnetic induction for short term illumination. Then never have to replace the batteries or worry about them leaking in the model and ruining it.

Well, Lumen is a bit of a vague measurement since you never get any exact numbers, especially since almost all LED\'s are somewhat directional, so, without actual measurements or devices to provide such my direct guess would be that the ones i am using give something between 2-(MAX)5(it is a bright cone but it doesn\'t light anything up really), they\'re quite cheap diodes that aren\'t made for more heavy duty than lightning up a button or a small panel.

And of course, if you want to you can go about calculating this and adjust your glazings and plastic thickness and everything accordingly, but it really is a bit overkill. you never get two glazes exactly the same thickness for one, and when it comes down to it it is an artistic piece you\'re making and as such it is always better to just adjust the light to what you find pleasing, most LED\'s out there are bright enough to give you more than you need from start.

wow, thanks a lot.

while most of that may have been a bit too technical for my taste, it did spark some memories of highschool, learning about basic electronic circuits.
and makes some kind of sense too

i\'ll have another little struggle with the thing then.

Thanks for the help.

So you are converting the Stormblade into a titan?

Those are both hellabig, and both look good.
