Thought I would finally get round to showing some WIP's of my work. I am still learning with my painting so any advice people can give me would be greatly appreciated. I am currently working on a Gnarlhorn Satyr, unfortunately the photo's are quite bad so I do apologize. There are a few things I am not happy with on this model, the main thing being the fact that I didn't prepare the model at all, was given to me by a friend ready made and undercoated and I stupidly thought he would have preped it, oh well! The NMM on the chain mail failed badly as well, need more practice on that. I have done more work on it, painted the eyes and mohawk. I just have to do the base but have no idea what to do with it, so any suggestions are welcome. It is meant to be autumn themed. Thanks for looking.

Well despite the pictures I can make out that this is a very nice paintjob indeed. Only problem for me is the yellows are punching my face in lol!! They look nicely done, but they overpower the rest of the model way too much. It's a great sculpt to paint though and nice to see another new WIP being posted, to everyone else who is sitting there with stuff on the table - start sharing the love and get some photos in this thread!!!!

The yellows are less in your face in real life, but they do pop a little, was thinking of making the skin tone lighter, but I like the way it has turned out. Hopefully when I get the base done it will look a little better. Then get some decent photo's taken. It is a great sculpt to paint though I admit, have really enjoyed it. Am now working on some Infinity models. I could post a lot of WIP's if I really wanted to, lol.

Red/Pink all the way. The blue is nice and all, but the pink one is much more interesting. The grey keeps it nicely muted, and the red/pink provides points of interest.

Its really hard to tell you about the colours when the photos are so heavily cast and blurred. It can be tough getting the photography of a mini right, I struggled myself when I started posting pics. Get a lamp with a daylight bulb, a nice background that works well with most minis (alot of people use the traditional blue/white gradient) let the sheet of paper curve so there is no visible line like you have in these shots (which is distracting) Use a tripod, avoid zoom if you can and use the macro fiunction - also use the camera timer function or a shutter release cable to take the shot. Shine the lamp from the front directly above the camera on the mini and try and get the thing evenly lit (but dont accidentally bump the camera at the last moment like I did lol). I think thats the key,even lighting. I tried taking pictures in the dark with just the lamp on the mini and you can see the results in my WIP thread with the rat bust. They came out okay. With the photo editing I only tend to use a few controls like crop, levels and maybe contrast and of course sharpening filters. The colour accuracy isn't too bad compared to real life - I think being a little colour blind doesn't always fill me with confidence lol.

I like the sculpts of the models you're working on I can tell you that much!! As to the colour of the standing model it looks like a dirty white on my laptop screen I cant see red/pink at all !!!!

Hope you can nail some good pics, the first pic you posted up top is not too bad and you can see what's going on. Play around with the lighting mate - not sure what camera you have but if something is well lit you should be able to get a reasonable shot.

Looking so much better pic wise :) I have to echo MiJ on the colours, the red one is great, so soft and warm but still violent feeling.

I have done more work on the pink infinity scheme, and will do some more on the blue soon as well. To much time being spent job hunting at the moment. Will post more pics later.

I really like the gnarlhorn. That's a cool looking sculpt? Forgive my ignorance but who makes it? I was going to suggest putting more brown and gray on his hide to offset the sharp yellow but it looks like you did a great job with that. lol! You've also done a great job improving the pics.

Good luck on the job hunt too!

It's done by Privateer Press, a Circle warbeast. It was a great sculpt to paint. Some of the circle beasts are really nice.

Right, I have decided I hate painting white, and faces. Need lots more practice at it. Anyway, have finished the 2 infinity scheme's to best of my abilities. Am really not happy with the face on the girl, but I think it is a really bad sculpt on the face to be honest, still doesn't excuse the poor undercoating and bad paint job. Let me know which one you prefer and I will try and improve them. Any comments or advice would be greatly appreciated. Like how to paint face's and eye's.

Just base coated some circle Druids, will do more on them tomorrow as I have poor light in my room and I'm feeling a little sick as well.

Just a quick update. I have been a little busy this week so nothing new to show just yet. But my next 2 commission models just turned up in the post. Annyssa and Naaresh from PP. I seem to paint a lot of PP. Am getting a little bored of it now.

Oh, the Gnarlhorn is now on ebay here #250897399182 just in case anyone is interested ;)

Ok, just finished my last piece, not my best work. Completed in 6hrs so can't complain. Was only done to table top standard for a friend. Gave him a nice base though. This is Naaresh the new warlock for Skorne. Nice model, fidely.

Sadly I can't help you with faces or white; as they're also two of my least favourite things to paint. :)
Good job overall though, I love the colour tones you're getting. the pics seem a bit small and fuzzy though...

The red Aleph variant looks the best...the same scheme i have thought about, i will just push the red to a more polished ruby like red.

For painting white i would recomend starting with GW foundation Dheneb Stone, it gives a nice base for white and a off white color that would go well with Aleph IMHO

Most people seem to prefer the red for the Infinity. Just need to tidy it up and work it out properly now. Thanks for the tip on painting white marjedi. Will give it a go when I get round to painting for more. This is my current piece, Annyssa Ryvall for Legion of Everblight. Just started the mount. Not much done on it, want to get her done quick as Dreadfleet is staring at me with all the piratey goodness it offers.

Not to go too far back, but I think you need more autumn colors on the base. Some leaf litter, and maybe some autumn colored lichen, or clump foliage. Because if you had not told me autumn themed I would have no idea. But the painting is very sharp, and nice. Well done.
