I am not an nmm expert, but this looks more brown then gold. From what i can see you lack some more dark colours under the hiighlights to make it look goldish.

I say goldish cause nmm gold always look fake to me

That's what I was thinking, it's very brown. Gold does always look a little fake, but thought I would give it a go to see what it is like. Also to push myself and see if I can do it. Want to push my painting a lot further.

Hi Greensam, nice blending on the NMM but it's not working for me as metal. Now I don't have much experience with this and accurate light reflections are hardly my strong point but I think the issue is that you're using two disparate styles.

For the NMM you need to decide where the light source is and only paint in highlights as appropriate. Instead you've used an 'Eavy Metal style edge highlighting technique.

As a model in nicely painted brown armour I think he works really well but that's obviously not the intention ;) Solution? I think tone back areas of highlight that are in shady areas. Push highlights to white in a more puddle type effect. Push some of the shading toward black. NMM seems to me to be very much about maximum contrast (or is it depth? Getting my terms muddled :)).

A touch of olive green or a darker blue (eg Regal) glazed into the shading of the head will help to define flesh from the similarly toned brown armour.
Keep up the good work, there're some nice brush skills on display here :good:

Cheers, B.

It is very brown isn't it. I took it into my local GW store and they basically said the same thing as you. Needs to have OSL effects to make it more metallic, esp as the silver is sourced from one side. I think I shall leave it as brown , maybe darker it of a little in some area's and lighten in others just to try and make it pop more. But I fully see where you are coming from. I followed an 'Eavy Metal guide to do hence the look lol.

Was looking for a way to make the face better and thanks for the advice, might try that tomorrow and let you know how it goes. Skin, especially faces has never been a strong point of mine. I was thinking of a purple glaze, but that would be in turn with the armour. If it all goes wrong I blame myself so don't worry lol.

Anyway, thanks for the advice

Right, sorry it's been a while. Little bit busy with getting a job and studying for a teaching thing. Finally got round to finishing this model a few days ago. Though not happy with the line at the bottom of the loin clothe. Might change that at a later date to something else, we shall see. Anyway, here are 2 versions of the photo's, which one is better? top or bottom. Let me know, and thanks to all the help from everyone, it has made this my best model to date. And it's all down to you wonderful people. Next model will be silver nmm....Draigo here we go!
Had real trouble getting these uploaded and just noticed that the pictures are not that clear....will have another at the weekend taking pics

Very nice Green!

I like the top pics better but they're a little flat. The bottom are a bit too warm on the color balance (at least on my monitor). Maybe try a gentle nudge on the contrast on the top ones?

Thanks Kath, I agree they are a bit flat. Can't really see the smooth blending or detail on certain parts. Will have a play with them at the weekend. I should get a decent camera really as well.
