Duende, my mother-in-law uses that same reasoning. She loves to hit sales. She always says \"But I saved so much money!\" hehe

That logic works if you were intending to buy said item(s) in the first place, and they happened to be on sale. But if you weren\'t intending to buy them, then you didn\'t save anything. You still lost money lol

You missed my point, it\'s not that I was sale-shopping, it\'s that I chose to blow my hard-earned dough on paints and minis over clothes, shoes or silly handbags.

Currently, my coworkers (females) are going nuts over these Longaberger baskets. Sure, they\'re handwoven and nice, but still.... oodles of $$ for a simple basket! A basket!! Whoopee. If I\'m gonna spend that much, I\'d rather put it into some nice Andrea figures or something.

Or, just a possibility here, you could send the extra money to pay off the car loan, credit card or house note faster.
:p

I owe no money on my car, my credit cards are nearly paid off already, and I rent. :p I\'m talking about my \"fun money\", what I do with my extra AFTER the bills are paid, whether I save it or spend it and what I spend it on. And rather go for a top that 10% off, I go for minis that are 30% off and go topless instead. :D

Topless is good.

On a side note, Renting seems such a waste of money.
I myself, own my home, and it will be paid off in 3 years. After that it\'s just utilities and food.
You always have to pay when you rent, there never is a point when you have paid it off.

I own my home too, but you are leaving out PROPERTY Taxes, upkeep, repair costs, etc. etc.

Renting is not without its advantages.

And when most mortgages run 30 years, it seems like forever anyways. With renting, if something needs fixed, I call my landlord. If I want to move, I just give 30 days notice, pack and go. I don\'t have to worry about selling, it\'s up to him to find new tenants. The only bad thing would be annoying neighbors, but really you can get those anywhere, owning or renting.

... and frankly, renting is a lot of people\'s only option. I don\'t LIKE paying hundreds of dollars a month and getting no equity in return, but I don\'t know how long I will live in this city, and I have nowhere near the $ for a down-payment anyway. Rental housing is just... life. Sub-optimal, but you do what you have to do to get by.

Oh, yeah I just paid my property taxes.
3 Acres on a State Highway. Valued at $180,000 (Mind you the average Acre goes for $30,000)
$32.00 property tax.

But then again, a house that you can build for $100,000 here would go from anywhere from half a million to a million in San Diego.

As for annoying Neighbors, not for me. My nearest neighbor is my mom, who is about 600 yards away. I also own the land to the side of me which gives me an acre buffer from any others who might move here.

mmmmmmm...topless now there\'s an idea.

well I lost the argument in that she turned with the top and the damn shoes to go with it...
Also won the argument in the bloke way of not letting it turn into an argument after the fact.

If it isn\'t paid off in full though there maybe another argument...

Vike your right in that credit cards can be pretty essential to get a credit rating.

I used to pay for everything cash in the firm principle if I couldn\'t afford it I wouldn\'t have it... Always wonder why my credit sucked until it was recommended I get a Card and keep the balance paid as well as getting a couple of things on buy now pay in installments making sure I pay it just to get recognised as viable for credit...

pain in the ass and took a while despite never having an overdraft owning my own place I still had to go through the owing people money to get credit...can see how people can gettrapped.

our lass (the fiancee sorry yorkshire lingo thingy) has a ttally different view often saying well theres X £\'s left on the credit card where my view is the money ain\'t mine I basically have a limit that acts as my permission to borrow somebody elses money...

(I don\'t think women are evil cheeky or Rude .....At least not when you first meet them...)

Ive know some women who can just go out and put everything on a card and end up having a strict period to pay it all back and more, I cant do that, unless I actually have the money its a no go. I always make sure I have at least £700 to fall back upon.

Damn your cheap country living! lollol

No sh~t!!! I think I\'d pay that much if I owned a postage stamp sized plot here! And I\'m nopt even NEAR the ROtten APple! FOrget it if you own property THERE

As for using credit cards to establish credit, that\'s all quite true. SInce the divorce, I own essentially nothing in my name and am only on one credit card but the account isn\'t in my name. I applied for a credit card (one of the gajillion offers I get in the mail) and they told me they COULDN\"T PROVE I EVEN EXISTED  NOrpositive, but I think I LIKE that! :D

Well there\'s plenty available \"on my credit card\" but much less available in my bank account.
The key is to ignore your credit card limit and use the card as though it\'s a check book from your bank account (and don\'t write any bad checks).
I actually put damn near everything on my credit card. I have a rewards plan that matches 1% of everything I put on the card, and 6% if it\'s telecommunications (though not having cable or a long-distance carrier or a mobile plan I don\'t get much from that).
So if I put $100 on my credit card, the company gives me $1 - but not to me. They pay it to my mortgage company.
So, by using the credit card, I\'m paying off the house a little bit faster.

I have a credit card that is empty and will remain that way except for absolute emergencies. Got it when my son was born 21 months ago now and it is there solely for anything emergency to do with the little un...
Anyways just been having an argument with our lass.
She came back moaning about wanting to go buy a top she wants. She gets paid saturday so can afford it then but she is adamant she is gonna buy it today on Credit card. She wants it because she has seen it before couldn\'t afford it but it now has 10% off. Her credit card charges 16.5% a.p.r so if my maths is right it is now costing her more than the original rrp.???? She is determined I\'m wrong so I will probably lose this one.

Oh well Rant over back to the brushes.

Hah, that sounds about right. To be honest though (and I haven\'t read the other posts sorry, I am writing this drunk and on the hoof), blokes probably do the same thing. Only they don\'t spend it on clothes, and they don\'t wait until the sales either. Where are you from DH? You sound possibly North-East, which I didn\'t notice before (if you are). There are a few of us here, some new youngsters but some oldies have dissappeared (Klute?).

/16.5 sounds shite though. I don\'t use that service, not even month to month.
