ok since i spent the last days of my holidays just buggin around i finally sat down and finished the face this hood thing around his neck that you can barely see, the hoses and this strange scanner thing on above his head
im planning to do some gothic letters as background for the crux since it would 1)look cool and 2)mean less large scale black shading because if theres anything worse than getting decent blacks its getting decent blacks on large scale minis ;)

PIC_0010.jpg

this scanning device is shaded with purple, teal, green, dark and light brown, blue and red ... what do you see ? blackness lol

Very nice Josh.
Are you going to use gloss varnish for the eyes and teeth.Oh one of those pva glue drools from the teeth would look good.

i dont own any gloss varnish :(
and im not sure about that drool thing, ive seen it many times and read about it but sorry i just CAN\'T believe that its done with ordinary glue ;)
and even if it was, im certain that i couldnt do it lol

Yeah, just some white PVA Glue makes good drool :D just try it out on some other surface first. And GW sells gloss varnish in a pot, I think it\'s called varnish or \'ardcoat. But the bust looks fantastic, I love the crux ! And the face rocks, only thing i don\'t like about it is the tongue, a bit too red for me :/

Lookin\' forward to seeing it finished

guess i\'ll have to buy that varnish, upt o now i always borrowed my sisters nail polish for something really glossy like water :\\

and youre right on the tongue, but what should i do with it? i tend to darken it with some more terracotta tones but when i look at my own tongue its a lot whiter als paler than this one (even if that might be due to someones medical condition) but it wouldnt look much good on the mini me thinks

another very improtant question imho is: how the heck shall i paint the black pearls on his necklace? dark angel chaplains just need these pearls so bad ;)
in the first run, a few years or month ago i painted them a little bit like gems, highlighted with light grey and added a small white dot onto every ball
the problem here is: it might look great on pictures with the right angle but horrible if you look from another perspective since it will ruin the light effect and make it look plain wrong :(

grrr i painted the last two hours in some goddamn dim light on the two purity seals since i needed around 20 layers (aint kidding) of vermin brown to cover and then ruining everything with rushing the letters :|~
guess what i\'ll have to do tomorrow morning :~(

i was just wondering what you all do when you take pictures of bigger minis? i\'ve been working on a giant for a LONG time now, and am having some real problems snapping pics of it. Here\'s some that i took of his rusted boots. First question, does it need more rust? Second question, when i take full body shots should i use more flash/less light, or more light/less flash? Any tips on photographing larger minis?

Thanks you SO MUCH!

Really looking forward to seeing the completed figure.

Never thought I would be happy to be threatened with a hammer but....

Itchy: I\'d suggest more lights, no flash and plenty of practise shots. In this instance I believe that a Light Tent may be the best way to get decent photos of something this size.

That is cool Demon Hunter I think you may get a little fed up of red though after 80 nids lol

The red is actually quite quickly done:

Basecoat Scorched Brown
Highlight Scab Red, leave only the deepest recesses SB.
Highlight Scab Red+Blood Red.
Add a drop of Blood Red to the SR+BR mix.
Then pure Blood Red.

It\'s the carapace that takes long:

I use the method explained in a article on this site. I use the colours Scorched Brown>Bestial Brown>Vomit Brown>Bleached Bone>Ivory

I really like those dynamic duels; really cool:D

Ok, so after a tip from Mike (DR) I have tried out the camara again and got some better results.

The following one is of my Mordor Troll Chieftan- well his back armour actually.

DSCN1074.jpg

This model has been in on/off construction since Novemeber- there\'s so much green stuff as the arms did not fit on properly etc.

I love this way of metalllic painting and am proud of these results. It has a dynamic edge to it etc.

So I was just wondering, if there is any way of improving it? In addition, this is also a WIP of my photography skills...lol

Anyway, I will endevour to actually finish a model;)
