Work In Progress

Hi! I\'m doing a Dark Elf rider for a competition at the local GW store (if they allow mounted minis, have to check..). Here\'s the horse on his base. I accidentally attached the horse too far back on the base so I had to do something to balance it, hence the spear blades. Inspired by Margo\'s thread I tried to do some rusty NMM. The rider is still only primed, but he will also be very dark, almost only black and steel...

looks great, what did you use ont he blacks? plain grey? im asking because i have to paint large black areas myself in the near future :(

ok heres what i did this night (gtg to school in 30 minutes :D)

PIC_0015.jpg

painted the tabard in a darker brown to give it a contrast to the purity seals and did some gothic letters on the borders, think it looks decent for the first try (and it was more like a training for the shoulderpad)

@Bad Russian Guy: good to see you here on the forums! Is that the WIP you told me about a few weeks ago? It looks very dynamic, and I especially like the base!

@Astonia: the horse is absolustely great, and the rusted blades look very appropriate, good job!

CSG - That metal come out really nice (were u even posting the picture for comments about the metal) if i could say anything about it, it would be to dullen it up it a teeny bit, looks a little shiny for a troll, may be just the how the lights reflecting though?, the picture\'s come out well too

Well it\'s both lol.

It could be the light that\'s shining on it, although it is shinier than my other troll\'s armour...

Thanks:D

Damn that\'s looking good Joshua! Have you decided what you are going to do with the beads / pearls on the necklace yet? One thought if you want to go for the Pearl look (black I believe you mentioned) might be to add some pearlescent paint to black or grey and see if that gives you the reflectivity you are looking for...

Also wanted to show you good folks the finished X-mas Sophie from a few pages ago:

Please go and comment / vote on her when you get a chance.

Don\'t be embarrassed....

Al, You have nothing to be embarrassed about. you do things with Greenstuff that I can\'t even imagine. And your painting\'s not too shabby either... :)

Cheers,
Grumb

Yea, I\'m with Grumb; when it comes to green stuff, gap filling is a challenge for me. And as for sculpting? I am retarted. It\'ll look splendid once you paint it.

@ Joshua

On the horse body I used VMC German Grey and GW Rotting Flesh

The mane and tail is painted with GW Black and VMC Silver Grey.

I used lots and lots and lots of transparent layers and very diluted black washes to get a smooth blending.

Astonia, that horse and base look extraordinary, I can\'t wait to see the finished model with rider. You just keep getting better and better!

Joshua, I\'m enjoying watching that bust evolve and take form, it\'s a lot of fun seeing it step by step as you work through it, you\'re really doing it justice as well I believe.

Abstract - I\'m also enjoying watching the sculpt take form, it\'s a skill I totally lack so I\'m taking notes on your progress and perhaps one day I\'ll follow in your footsteps.

I\'ve got an old eldar musician and standard and I wanted to use so I bought some more Eldar older figures.

Feeling somewhat overwhelmed by the display of talent in this thread, but here\'s my current WIP. Heresey\'s Fallen One.

As you can see, I\'ve given him a big spikey axe in his right hand, question is what colour should I paint the weapons?
I was thinking of trying my first NMM blades, but I\'m not convinced the clean look would fit with this model, or maybe a stone/slate look or a rusty, worn steel. Any Ideas?

Cheers - Rab.

That is looking ace Rab, I have this beauty to paint and I like the way you have done yours, inspiring. I think the weapons should contrast the skintones so as not to blend in with them.

Cheers tidoco, contrasting colour, so something pale and light? Maybe a bleached bone look? The handle of the sword is sculpted to look like a backbone, so that could work.

Hmmm, I like the sound of that, cheers mate.
