see scott, you sent me something like that as part of the mini exchang thing but i\'m at a dead loss as how to paint it, want it to be bright though like that

Well, I like to think of those aspects done: skin, tounge and gums, shoulder pad and jerkin... But I definitely need to go see a photographer about this...

Any comments are welcome.

The part in the bottom left is the banner head. I tried to do some nmm-ish metallics, and like it so far, but I just can\'t seem to get it to look right on the front...

Great work on those Ratlings, Talion! I\'d go with desert camo, just for kicks, also it\'s a little lighter than most camo and won\'t make their wee little details vanish! Or I suppose you could do arctic for a similar effect.

He\'s painted as a Scout type character, so I think I need to add some foiliage around the base of the rock.
(Plus there are a couple of casting air bubbles which didn\'t show up until I pinned him to his base. Then they cracked away. Can\'t be helped sometimes.)
Still I think the addition of some greenery near to this feet will add to the air of the backwoodsman that he has.

I\'ve taken note of the comments that were made about his left eye being slightly \'off\' and corrected it. (Without marking the flesh around it as well.)

Photgraphs need to be re-shot but as a WIP what do you think?

@Dragonsreach - Really looking great Mike. I\'m working on one of his counterparts for my Warlord dwarven warband. This is Priest Ivar (orginally named Thorngil or some such).

Doesn\'t look as good as Mike\'s, but I just started him tonight and have only spent 3 or 4 hours on him so I\'m pretty happy so far. Long ways to go yet. The big hole in his back is where his backpack is attached, but I\'ve decided to leave it off so I\'m breaking iout the GS to fill the cavity. Wish me luck, still don\'t have the hang of the GS quite yet!

Love to hear your thoughts.

This is my WIP. I\'ve just done his armor so far. Please let me know what you think.

By the way, how do you guys do the back when painting a figure with lots of NMM, where the lightsource is in front of the figure? Do you pretend theres a second light source behind the figure, and lighten the back up too, or do you paint the back in dark greys?

Thanks Sebastian. Yes I start with the base color and then layer up with highlights from there. His face was basecoated in dark flesh and then layered up with very thin coats of dwarf flesh, dwarf + elf flesh, elf flesh.

Can\'t answer your NMM question, never use the stuff, I\'m a metallics guy. But, when doing metallics I paint as if there is a seconf lightsource on the same side as the first...make sense? One BIG lightsource from above..... some non-painters call it the sun... lol

@Seb....I usually paint the figure using an ambient lightsource (sun) then go further for additional ones.
Nearly forgot,,,,my latest stuff.
More on the marine,the leave he is attatched to is bent to look like he is flying over it.Cant tell from this view but it looks more dynamic than this where he just looks stuck on top.

Next is a private commission sculpt along the furry hamster style.Merlin the Rat Wizard.Great fun to do these and also good practice.28mm.

Last ,more on the big guy.Ive started adding greenstuff clothing over the sculpey body.He doesnt have boxing gloves on btw,I will dry sculpt the hands from the blobs.54mm.

All of those\'re looking spot on Mark. That big fella is really starting to look the part. A pair of boxing gloves wouldn\'t look out of place actually...

@Dragonsreach--Wow! Great work, I wouldn\'t change a thing except perhaps the left hand. This is exceedingly minor (don\'t mean to offend), but the back of the hand has a little brown spot near the knuckle of the ring finger. Is it a crease that just looks funny?
@Grumb--strong start. Are you going to take the white hemwork around to the inside of the robe? I might soften the transition of the nasolabial fold on the face.
@GLBH--the orc skin looks good as does the jerkin.
@Mordred--He looks good, although a bit washed out with the white background.
@Spacemunkie--love Robin!

Class must have worked then
I would highlight the face further.At the moment it looks darker than some of the body.I like the face to go lighter than the body to draw the eye to it.The back view looks very smooth.Well done.

Thanks Jabber, I was staring at this face this morning thinking pretty much the same thing, I think a slightly lighter wash into the crease should take care of it. As for the inside of his oute garment, I was toying with making it a completely different color as if the garment were lined. Haven\'t decided on a color yet. I also want to add anothe band of color to the piping around the cloak and can\'t decide on a color for that either.

You mini is looking good, the skin looks very smooth. not sure about a snow base though. naked people standing in the snow always just seems wrong to me... i agree with Mark that the face could use some additional highlighting to make it pop a little more. Very nice fleshtones though!

Thanks for the insights. I will go back and highlight the face just a bit. Hehe Grumb--the base is not done yet. Rowena comes on an integrated base, so instead of cutting her off, I just glued her to a round base and placed greenstuff to smooth it out. She was primered with white, so that is what you see. Although...maybe she is casting a warm self spell...lol If I did leave her on a snow base, I would need to add a bit of greenstuff to the nipples (for reality\'s sake, right?):]

@Rancid--Welcome to the forums! She was based with VMC Beige Brown, then highlighted with mixes of BB and VMC Flat Flesh in 1:1 mix, then 1:2 mix. I tried elf flesh as the final highlight, but I was much to liberal with it; if you take a look at Klute\'s \"skin up\" thread, you can see that was a disaster.

Thanks again--I\'ll post once the base is finished and I have worked on her face a bit more. One more question. The handle of the wand is flat--where would you put highlights?
