What I did last week for this beast...

DSC02184.jpg

DSC02186.jpg

So some comments...That is apoxysculpt being used (greenstuff only on some of the inner joints). Apoxysculpt is cheaper, and hardens ..well...harder, so better to sand, and drill, etc. DId I mention it\'s cheaper? :) it\'s also non toxic. (yes, kneadite aka \"green stuff\" is toxic)

The frill on the head needs sanding down to make it smoother, but the surface, which has 2 rips in it, are on purpose...want to make it appear to have been in some battles, and have had the thinner flesh torn. I will also be adding horns and scales to it, so that should hide some flaws in a later stage.

THe neck to the body - same deal, very rough and crappy right now :( but hopefully will look better once final body is done, and then start adding bone horns and scales. SCales will be done via brown stuff probably added last. So put a flat piece of it on the torso, then using a sculpting tool or dentist tool, carve around it to make the scale pattern. Either way, that should hide some flaws. THe underside still needs better texturing which is my error so not sure what to do, but i may just add a very thin layer of apoxysculpt and put lines it in via the dentist tool.

The arm also needs to be a bit smoother in parts via sanding, but again, some scales/horns to be added, which will help the look.

This weekend also did measurements for the actual weapon to go on it\'s back. THe wires have been cut and are the right length. THe actual weapon is basically ready but I have alot more work to do for it. Estimate time to completion, I\'m hoping sometime mid august, but could be late august as well.

Any experienced sculptors...any help (or prayers) would be appreciated. THis is my first sculpture attempt.

Regards,

Sanjay :D

It\'s not exactly healthy...

Looking good so far, Sanjay! I wouldn\'t worry about small flaws at this stage. Plenty of time to fix them...:)

the base for one of my tyranid warriors.. the unflocked area is a marker for one of the feet (his right foot) also note ripper is darker in colour... resoning behind this.... rippers are thought to be under developed tyranids... other wards new borns.... so i didnt give it fully mature colours... that and i ran out of the paint i used lol if you wish i can tack the model together without the wings to give you a better idea ;)

Heres something i\'ve been working on ( well started around 10.. its 3:00 now... :D)

Taking Pictures of metal is really annoying.. lights bounce off of it every which way...

Blade.jpg

The green is Citadel scaly green. So its not really a christmas elf. The bluish color is liche purple (light is just messing with me tonight)

Nice work guys.

@Sanjay......see you are starting small;)
Get all the musculature blocked out before you tackle any details. That way you can alter proportions without ruining detail.

Here is the assualt marine sergeant Im doing. The full squad will be this way.A different appraoch to paint chips etc.I sprayed the armour boltgun metal then covered it with mithral. This formed the base metal colour. Then I applied the red paint leaving the worn areas.Reg gore then blood red.I then \"scraped\" away areas down to the base coat for some chips and damage. Then black washes and stuff.

For saying you hate blue you\'ve done pretty well with it so far. Not totally sure about the green blindfold though.

Si, agreeing with ya on the green blindfold - have thought about it overnight - and he will find a new scarf at some point :D

Klute - Like the red armour - but isn\'t adding the metallics first all over a bit of a waste of paint when you are only going to show a little bit? Or do you think the metals give something to the red painted over the top?

I see what you mean but Im just experimenting. The painted on chips with the black edges look good but a bit cartoony and I want a more subtle natural look.
IRL it does have a nice natural look to it probably becuase its painted like a real one would be.???
Thers still some grime to add and some bug splats. Its ages since I did a sm and Im enjoying painting it.Cleaning the plastic models I hate as much as ever though.

You have to have splats :D

Do you think essex space marines would have neon underlighting? And a big bass speaker out the back lol

How about some of those fake paint splat transfers that were the rage about 15-20 years ago!

Noooooooo! Don\'t go there, sister.

Klute - I think your method did work out well - it does seem like a waste of paint but if it works it\'s not a waste right? :D The end result is as you say quite natural.

Hi-lite-r - good colours on that elf, very rich. They suit the metallic armour. Everyone does NMM now and I\'m trying to learn it myself but skillful, appropriate use of metallics will always look good, IMO.

It has been quite some time since I have put brush to mini and I thought that I may not paint ever again.
Thanks to the support of alot of people I have gone back to the hobby and here is the latest piece of work from me.

MinotaurFrontWIP1.jpg

MinotaurBackWIP1.jpg

I have not finished the skintone yet as I intend to do some sharper highlights on the highest parts of the muscle tone.
I am thinking of going NMM but that is not a strong point with me so may end up using natural metallics.

Mark you have amade a boring mini look very interesting, another method you might try is using maskol.
You paint your mini with metallic and then apply maskol on areas you want to look chipped, then paint the colour of your choice and then when you have that done simply peel off the maskol.

It is a popular method in WWI / II modelling.

Hi Tim....good to see you back.

That figure looks a good choice to get stuck into.I would go metallics. You rock at them and nmm might knock your confidence if you dont pull it off.Im sure you would though.
The marine I want to get looking as good as possible with the least effort.(ebay on the mind). He is all plastic too with just a little leg re positioning.
I have thought about masking fluids before but never had the chance to use them. One to keep in mind though.

@Tidoco: Welcome back! :flip: The Minotaur looks spiffy, the skintone might contrast well with a dark overall look. (Or just use it as underpainting layers... ???)

Love your Marine, Klute...

Another WIP of mine, and a landmark mini too, as it means I too am losing my Rackham virginity :D

masterofpuppets.jpg

Yet again im attempting NMM on all the armoured areas and on the sword, which is partially done. Working with a Shadow Grey basecoat as I like the slight blue tint it gives to everything.

Clothing is almost complete too, im going to highlight up another couple of shades, and also change the colours of a couple of the patchwork panels.

As for the skin tone, im going to be going with a slightly lighter green tone than the dark tone of the one pictured on the packet.

Coincidentally, im getting good vibes with this mini. I read and reread all the articles I know of about feathering again, and i find myself painting an area and saying \"Hey!\" to myself rather than \"Well.... itll do.....\" (make sense to anyone lol)

Can you buy 1?

Ahum, what did I cast? Thank for the compliment, but I don\'t think GW would like it if I\'d cast that Dark Elf, as it is a (quite simple) conversion based on the mounted Slaanesh Lord:D
