RD - Yeah, they don\'t want old classes overlapping with the current class because they don\'t want newer members to get confussed.
Brandlin - your paint jobs seem nice, but your photos seem washed out. Try checking the white balance on your camera or maybe using PhotoShop or Gimp to tint them down, Then seem pretty toned up right now.

Another question...
this is brutal...everyone\'s gonna know my entry before it\'s even done, but since I need tips, i have to ask
since my EotG has uhm..it\'s own \'lightsource\' so to speak, i wasn\'t going to paint any light sourcing on it, etc.
I was planning, like in my other thread of the stonewor, to just put shadows on the far sides of stuff, where light wouldn\'t reach directly, then just lighten the sides that are exposed to the \'real light source.\' and let the light source \'hilite\' everythijng for real.
is that what people would suggest, or should i actually paint light sources on it, etc as if it wasn\'t powered on it\'s own?
I hope this makes sense...i don\'t want it to look stupid for the contest, so i figured shadowing is all i should do...

@Sanjay : if you have the time, IMHO, you\'d better paint the light effects in addition to the real effect. If you get a daemon, they\'ll take the picture under powerful lights and it could deminish the final effect. Just my 2 Euro-cents .

i\'m spending so much to go to england for this, i have to be ready regardless, and since it\'s my first major contest, i want to make a \'memorable showing.\' I\'d be happy if i can do a good enuff job that people are talking about it since that is all i expect.
i\'d love to win a demon (i\'d dance for joy if a miracle occurred and won a sword!) but i don\'t expect/count on it since my work just isn\'t up to par yet with the other contestants.
so, i HAVE to do everything i can...i have scheduled a week off already not next week but the one after from work using vacation time to paint...and with the overtime i have these past 3 weeks due to an emergency at work, i could prob get 3 to 5 days more i hope off...
I will look into adding lighting effects lasta fter model is painted. goal is to finish the stone work by tomororw night/saturday morning... then start the platform on the dino itself...then work on the dino...

Another Orc WIP:
The gloss on the skin is due to some ink glazes, hopefully the varnish will take care of that. The shaman\'s sword is my very first tentative try with SENMM. Be gentle

hmmm...
I think the orc skin needs another light level or 2 of highlights. It\'s prob the photo but it appears extra dark. I think you just need a few more hightlights overall.
I think the blending for the SENMM needs to be a bit smoother, but since I can\'t blend worth a damn, I will leave it for a pro to respond too
freehand on cloak...FREEHAND ON CLOAK!!!

@Godlike, Yeah, Sanjay is right, you need to work on the smoothness of your blending if you want to raise the bar. Maybe watering down the paints more, and stroking from the darkest to lightest area (finishing the stroke where you want the the lightest colour to be), and using more shades of paint, and putting on glazes of the darkest colour every now and then to smooth out the transitions. Hope that helps some

K, thanks guys. The SENMM is, well, a first, and basically just a dry run, to see what I\'ll have to do and whether I get the \"look\" right and stuff. I just figured a dark look to an aged and wizened Orc shaman would fit (and the guy I do this for already has the same model done by me, with a greyish skin tone... so it\'s for variety, too...). I decided not to do freehand on him, keeping in line with the dark-ish, crude Orc nature, instead I plan on doing something flashy on the Staffbone... OSL maybe? (Would be a first, too...) Wish me luck!

here\'s my gd warm up mini......just to ease me back in before the serious stuff starts.
i must admit that after not painting for what seems like ages my expectations have gone up , but my skill level down!
good job i\'m not doing this seriously or this would have bounced off a wall some time ago!

Well inbetween painting Gondorian warriors for my little diorama I\'ve started this, it is considerably bigger and helps my eyes to refocus a little after concentrating on those small LOTR minis,
It is in the very early stages so not alot done and what is is a little rough around the edges but that will all be sorted by the time it is finished.

medved & tidocco - for very early stages both of those minis look great - mine never look that nea and idy at any stage!
Itchy - i\'m using softare to alter the colour balance as i don\'t have a white balance adjustment on my camera... i thought my pics were getting better apparently not! Canyou give me a better description of what you think looks unnatural about them? - i\'ve spent so long looking at the settings that i dont think i can tell the difference anymore.
Here\'s my latest WIP another RPG character for a friend. The thing in herhand is a green stuff rose which will eventually be bleeding into a pool of blood (tastefully done) on the pavement she is standing on. I need to redo the eye brows.. and apply some makeup but otherwise the skin and dress are complete.
I think the shine is due to the Klear (Future) i have in the glaze and washes - you can\'t see it with the naked eye but the camera picks it up... i hope the fina dullcoat will knock that off.

ok so some more progress shots. did the red cloak and made a start on the black/ grey one. as i said this is just a warm up mini.......and i am really enjoying the relaxed approach to it. he will be used for an upcoming inquisitor campaign and the big flat areas are giving me plenty of space to doodle on!
