Hi
This is my High Marshal that I am working on at the moment.
Any comments are welcome.
The inside of his cloak I have painted 4 times now and it still looks crappy. it now looks like some 70\'s garish wallpaper. Oh well, ignore that bit.
I didnt like the official gold armour and I see someone has done black so I thought I would give the bald man some nice rustic red.

The torso/head part is from a chaos space marine heavy weapon guy. The model was origanly supplied with a missile launcher...

@Tony: I like that ;) Get some Tamiya Clear Red. Seriously good stuff for blood.

The High Marshall is looking extremely cool too.

@Talion: That IG Beastman with the chainsword is one of my favourite ever miniatures. I\'d love to have a go at another one - I did this one about 18 years ago I reckon:

Thanks, I figured that it was likely a heavy weapons guy, because of the servo eye.

That\'s because, alas, you picked a pattern similar to 70\'s garish wallpaper lol But other than that, nice work!

@NSA yes i suppose the pattern is my own fault. My wife keeps telling me to decorate but I like the inspiration my decor gives me. :)

opted for metallics for the gun.......to distinguish it from the body armour

@ Orb
Thats a really nice paint job on that trooper, I like the metalics on the gun, I prefer metalic paint, i have used nmm myself but I always go back to real metals.

Im not so sure on the bright red visor/glasses though, they just seem to bright and out of place.

I think the red is too strong too. Also, the back of the weapon hand has a strong highlight on it. I don\'t know if it is intentionally that strong or if I can only see it do to the photo size.

the red is a bit strong, granted...!!! I like the contrast of it, and it is the 40K universe after all!! And the americans have touted an orange visor on future warriors as well. But I think I\'ll tone it down.

there\'s nothing like a big picture to expose big highlights - I can tone that down a little

ok so this here is a WIP of my Crimson Fists dreadnought, i dont have too much done yet, but theres things i havent figured out yet

HPIM0332.jpg

HPIM0333.jpg

ok so hes going to be swinging at an ork standing in front of him, hes going to have more battle damage, more stuff on top of him

i was trying to figure out how to bulk his legs out a bit(i have no plasticard...), and whether or not to have a hole blasted into the head piece showing a bit of the bare faced driver all wired in(may be too difficult to do well)

also theres some cables and such filling the gap in his waist since i tilted his torso forward, im going to paint it a bit before i decide whether i like it the way i did it or not

any ideas?

As always there is some great work here, Tone that centurious clone is great.
I also like the freehand work on that Black Templars marshal\'s cloak. The beastman is an old favourite of mine and Orb I love that Elysian Trooper. Anyway here is my space marine as it stands so far. I am pleased with it at the moment and I am also pleased to be getting close to having it finished.
Just the lower right leg and then some small details and a few tweaks here and there. Then I will just have to base it and that should be that.

this is the most NMM i\'ve ever done, second mini, ther first was just a singly trim as well. please PLEASE give me some pointers!!

also want veiws on conversion, my aim was to avoid the mutated mass of the standard DP and go for a sort of \'twisted by evil\' look. i still gave him horns though, and my next step is to paint tribal tattoo/ patterns arround the eye. i need help, i cant find any mini\'s with tribal tattoo\'s, any help will be much appreciated as im terrified of screwing up the mini. thanks..

Fred.

Just out of curiosity, how long did it take you guys to paint some of the above figures. Outstanding work by the way all, I hope to get that good myself. I used to think that i was quite a good mini painter untill i found this website, gonna have to work even harder nowlol

To me, the gold looks mostly yellow. You must have much brighter highlights! Highlight the colour you have at present with Bleached Bone and maybe even some white mixed into the BB. If you have VMC Ivory, that\'s a good choice too. Highlight it up all the way to pure BB + White or Ivory. The gold is also a bit too yellow for my taste, but that is more a matter of personal preference. But strong brightness in highlights is a must if you want it to look like metal. Just be careful to not cover too much of the metal parts with your highlights. Then you will have the reverse situation: it will look like Bleached Bone instead of yellow, but still not like metal. Hope I make sense here! :)
