What do you think is more impressive, a well designed 3d base or a 2d illusion of a base? Also what would you rather do, paint badly or not at all?

Hello everybody,

I started this one yesterday. I\'m trying to paint him as smooth as possible, with thin layers, smooth blends, glazes etc.
The face is as good as finished (the hands aren\'t), however I still have to paint the eyes, they\'re only awfully small .

The light green is almost finished, it needs some touch ups here ans there and maybe a glaze or two. The dark green isn´t finished yet, I started it yesterday´ eve but i got tired so i decided it would be better if i´d stop before it would go wrong :lol:.

The face is a bit darker/pink then irl..

What do you guys think :) ?

Very nice work indeed, silent scout. Angus, was that directed at crimeclown? If it was, that was kinda mean. I think with a nice base, that model is a 7 no problem, but bigger photos would help a lot :)

looks nice. although i don\'t generally approve of this, i reckon you could leave his eyes as they are. if they are too big, he\'ll look stary/scary! :eek:

:wow: nice work tony! Hatethestate, I love your space wolf. Here is my earlier WIP (doubt anyone\'ll remember) finished. I am planning to enter him into Youngbloods, I hope you like him :) Sorry I couldn\'t post photos directly onto the forums, the photo is huge and it would be annoying ;)

No I was asking a question. I\'m thinking of trying a 2d base. And I\'m not so sure I should try new thechniques if it will turn out bad.

Looks great!!! My ownly critique is that the skin could be better blended with better shading (so it can meet the same depth as the pants) and the moustache is too close to the skin tone. A well deserved 8.3!!!

I\'m only 13 too and I could NEVER paint that well.

I agree, the skin is very different to his trousers... I am very pleased with how his male bosoms came out, the rest is kinda flat; there was supposed to be a contrast between the two surfaces, but obviously not to everybody\'s taste! :D I painted the two using different techniques, but the dullcote really helped by unifying the model. Sorry about the misunderstading earlier, it wasn\'t clear how your post was directed :)

Marmoset: I´like your mini, the trousers are amazing, but i´m agree whit Angus the skin need more shadows.

Ghaffasa: It´s so easy to do the scratches, do a black spot, and fill it with boltgun leaving a thin black border, then, if the scratch is on a corner highlight with mitrhil silver; and you can oxide the scratch blending with brown and orange ink.

@Marmoset: voted and left a comment earlier, just took another look, I think Dragon Forge has a good point about how much you\'ve improved, it might be worth your while to do another model for GD as well, maybe a different categorie so that you can still enter the ogre too. Again Great job.

@Tony: Great job as usual, is there some green in that gold NMM or are my eyes playing tricks on me?

@Crimeclown: I like the ogre so far, right now I think the thing holding it back the most is the gaps on the sholders, if you fill those in with some green stuff it\'ll look much better. Skin looks good, I\'d say maybe one more highlight just on the upper most peices of exposed skin would probably be all thats needed right now. Are you painting for show or play?

it\'s gw chaos black primer (the best one for me, never failed)

yep there is green because it\'s not gold nmm but brass nmm ;)

base with 60/40 scaly green - scorched brown
highlight till 50/20/30 snakebite leather - scorched brown - scaly green
highlight until pure desert yellow
highlight until pure rotting flesh
light points with skull white ;)
