Some great photos on the site of the entries thanks for the link Orb but as Atacam has mentioned there is a lot there that have won in different shows both this year and last year.

Amongst them is the scratch built little Japanes girl that won best of show at Salute.

I agree it is nice to see them and have the chance to see them close up at shows but to see them entered time after time entered in competions...

I can see what you\'re saying Martin, but what difference does it make? Does it hurt anyone? Was anyone denied a prize by Roy having his Japanese girl there? No. So really it is no big deal.

There were entries there that have never been to a UK show that I got to see.....I would argue that people might not take miniatures that had won elsewhere if it made them ineligible for the Expo. It would have been a mush less exciting show.

If those Slayer Sword winners had not been entered at Expo, would those silver medals they won have gone to someone else? No. So let me see them!!!

BTW I think the Japanese Girl has only been entered in two shows.....Euro (Gold and BOS) and Expo (silver)


Edit; Actually, thinking about it, it\'s probably good to enter in one or more \"Open\" systems. As we know, judging is always subjective, so to see how different sets of judges view things may help give a better idea of your progress as a painter.....

Rob I am not saying they shouldn\'t be there :) Trust me I enjoy looking at them as some I have only seen in photos and not close up.

For me this is not an issue in open shows like Expo,Ravage and Euro etc.

An example I could use though is a guy at the Trucks & Tracks show earlier in the year had a display stand with figures etc that he had won awards for from previous shows and was winging about having to be a professional to win a medal these days (I\'m not complaining at this either) and then went on to mention he hadn\'t painted anything for two or three years but later that day a few of his display pieces disappeared from his stand and were entered into the show painting competition...

And I know a lot of the models in the Expo were preffessionally done for the bigger companies new releases and also entered again no gripe I want to see them :D in the flesh so to speak just as much as anybody else.

so how does the judging work. i guess its not like GD with 1 gold,silver and bronze. Is it more like this standard is a gold this standard is a silver etc??

The judging works something like this:

- Every contestant is judged by a team of three judges.
- First the judges compare the level of your display to see if it\'s consistent or if one mini is decidedly better than the rest. If the level is even the whole display is judged. Otherwise they only look at the best mini.
- Each of the three judges look at the display (or single mini) and gives it a score between 0 and 5. 5 is gold, 4 is silver, 3 is bronze and the rest is nothing.
- The scores of the three judges are added. 15 and 14 is gold, and so on...
- If one of the judges has a very different opinion than the other two he/she needs to explain the score. Without a good explanation the score is omitted and the result is based on the scores of the other two judges.

So, anyone who gets a combined score of 14 or 15 from three judges gets gold. The number of golds is not an issue. There might even be none.

The above pic needs a little explanation. The dude in the shorts is me ( height 6 ft 1 inch ). Now work out the size of my German comrade ! :flip:.

That German guy was H U G E!!! I\'m 6\'7\" (or 198 cm) and I\'m quite used to being the tallest guy around. This guy was a full head taller than me!! :eek:

I have met him in person and he is around 220cm. Like Ritual I am 198cm tall myself and used to being the tallest person around ... and suddenly you meet someone who has his shoulders on your eye level :eek:
