Actually, \"the problem here\" Dave, is that you are focusing on the wrong thing.

But to respond, I can only go with my own experience.
Um, having traveled far and wide and run into -both- varieties, (northern and southern) in far more numerous occasions I have to say that you are a lucky soul.
I\'ve met ones from the south in the north, some from the north in the south, and everywhere. I actually ran into a northern idiot in mexico and a southern one in canada.

And again, THE POINT was that:
this is TOTALLY off the issue I originally presented, AND look how much time/space/effort has been devoted to it.

And people wonder why nothing gets resolved.
Congressman A starts a discussion and Congressman B argues whether or not Congressman A has the facts, Congressman C suggests a committee.
Congressman D forms a committee to draw up the forms for the recruitment of members for the aforementioned committee by Congressman C.
And three years later they never did get around to starting that committee. Issues never resolved, let\'s give ourselves a pay raise!

Which in itself may be better than the congress getting some of the things they want done actually done.

Of course, I\'m of the opinion that more laws equals less freedoms, so a congress deadlocked in my opinion, is better than a congress passing bad laws for the sake of looking like they are accomplishing something.

But only the stupid, excessive, or freedom stealing(government parenting) ones get passed!! And the people get no say in it!!

Not so. When the people get involved as they did with the last immigration bill, that bill did not get passed. (So many calls the congressional switchboard shutdown.)
You blame the government, I blame the apathy of the people and the lack of understanding or care of how our government works.

Take the Cigarette laws for example, we set a precedent, and by allowing that precedent to be set we leave the path open for more nanny state oppressive laws.
Here\'s the crunch though, the majority were for it or at least apathetic to it, and they will be because the vast majority doesn\'t understand the concept of precedent and how the same laws can be used to ban something they like that may be deemed harmful, and they simply won\'t get it until it happens to them.

Apothy is definately and infinitely worse than ignorance.
I definately agree there. And the fact that more people need to get involved AND VOCAL in the way this government is run. But I am afraid that by the time that happens, it will be too little, too late.
I mean \"we\" allowed them to lower the standard of education, at time when the US standings in the world education scene were dismal, and let the PC groups \"protect\" our children from disappointment and hurt feelings. Not to mention \"save\" our kids from the growing experience and coping skills that humiliation, embarrasment, and dissappointment bring.

I\'m constantly hearing rumblings from ex-vets, and as long as we have the Second Amendment I\'m not overly worried.

As for the education system, I\'m afraid that\'s because of the parents, none of them seem to understand these days that their little Johnny is not so special after all. Look at those parents fighting against standardized testing.

You say the government is taking away our freedoms, I say the people are giving them away or actively striving to oppress others in their view of what is the \"greater good\".

\"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron\'s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.\"

this is why I don\'t worry about secret goverment conspiracies, lol if congress had to vote on whether or not their heads were up their asses it would come back indecisive and hell clinton couldn\'t manage to keep a BJ from a fugly secretary a secret. lol

this has actually been a fun post thanks jesterz

Meh...

The majority always screws it up. And stupid people breed because they don\'t know any better.

I want a job where I get to increase my pay every time I clock in!!

I still think that we need a government that is more actively involved with the people, not the lobbyists.
And I\'m also of the opinion that money is evil, and that religion should be like defecation: done in private and not shared with anyone but your closest friends...lol

@Jester I didn\'t think you were making redneck stereotypes, largely because McKinney and her dad are BLACK.

@Friar, I find it difficult to believe that Ron Paul didn\'t know that some mysterious people were publishing racist rants in his newsletters (Under his name) for a decade. He said he was too busy running his OB/GYN clinic. If this guy was that asleep at the wheel I don\'t want him to govern. In addition what was not mentione din the article is that he has contributed articles to the American Free Press, a supremacist rag, in the past. In those articles he is very careful not to appear racist etc because he actually bylined those. In his own newsletter there were few bylines which leads me to believe his a little bit of a coward as well.
