Just curious to know what you folks think about your \'current\' favorite mini genre. Please comment and tell us why!!

Some of these categories are \'catch alls\' .

Here\'s a brief definition:

Fantasy: Swords and Sorcery (Lotr, D&D, etc)

Science Fiction: Laser guns, hi-technology
(WH40K,Infinity, etc)

Pulp: Fictional settings from the 1930\'s-50\'s (indiana jones, sam spade, flash gordon, etc. etc.)

Historical: Minis that represent real people during real events in human history. (napoleonic wars, world war 2, etc)

Steampunk: a mishmash of sorcery and technology. (Warmachine, Wyrd)

Horror: Monsters from Dracula to modern zombies. Cthulhu to Aliens.

Others: the biggest catch all. Whatever doesn\'t fit. Superheros, post apocolyptic, etc. etc.

Woohoo! Im the second vote :p

Yeah its Sci-Fi all the way and everything it incompases. So its any and everything from say 40K to starwars and any generic sci fi in between.

I am into Blood Bowl right now. And that is only because a new employee at my wife\'s company. I am painting his Dark Elf team for him right now.

I may even post the Dark Elves on CMON.

Then I will paint my team. Whenever it decides to arrive.:)

I voted \'fantasy\' although I strongly object to supervike\'s narrow description of the genre. Fantasy to me is so much more than typical sword and sorcery, DnD type stuff (which I generally detest)! There\'s a lot of weird stuff out there that can\'t be described as anything other than fantasy, but definitely don\'t match the DnD description. This is the stuff I love!

I also like steampunk and horror and such, but fantasy always had and always will have a special place in my heart.

But for the most part;people associate fantasy with what Supervike said. there are other peole here.
Are you saying that for the sake of those who equals fantasy and DnD, that should be the strict definition? I\'m not saying fantasy is NOT what supervike mentioned, I\'m saying it\'s MORE than that. Sheesh...

And the reason I mentioned it at the first place, is because I don\'t like DnD stuff, but still like stuff that is fantasy.

I hear you Anders. I don\'t care for the DnD stuff either, but I did write above that that some of the categories are \'catch alls\'. I realize within in genre, are very viable sub-genres....But, I did\'t think I could get so specific and remain true to the poll.

Maybe later I\'ll have specific thread polls on the sub-genres.

I only wanted to specify that I don\'t like high fantasy stuff, and still voted fantasy. I realize that you can\'t fully define genres and that \"strongly object\" was definitely tongue-in-cheek.

If I only said I voted fantasy, people might think that I love Reaper minis above everything else. But if you look in my gallery, you see that I\'ve painted none. :)

Thats a good discussion to have though.

How do you define your \'fantasy\'?

DnD seems very cookie cutterish, and somewhat cheesy.

Reaper minis cater to that.

Warhammer has a darker look and feel.

I\'d prefer the LoTR type fantasy, where creatures \'feel\' real. They have a place in the world, not just there to kill an adventurer. Also, I like that magic is at best, undefined, subtle, and mysterious. I always loved that \'Sarumans\' real power was in his words. The Wizards duel in the movie was visually cool, but quite opposite of the way I think \'magic\' should operate.

So, Anders, define your ideal Fantasy for me....

I love fantasy....especially the sword and sorcery stuff.

That said, I\'ve never played D&D...or for that matter even seen it played. So in the sprit of continuing arguments about irrelevancies, I too STRONGLY OBJECT to vike\'s definitions.

So there.

@ vike....kidding on that last post of course, but I agree. While I like a good bit of reaper\'s stuff, I prefer by far the real-feel fantasy like lots of Andrea\'s 54mm Saga stuff. (which I mentioned on a previous thread)

I love fantasy pieces! I read fantasy and there are so many scenes from books I\'ve read that I would love to mini-ize, but that\'ll have to wait till my painting skills improve. ;)

Jim, I beleive I can describe my ideal style of fantasy in just one word: FRENCH! :D lol

Seriously though, the stuff I tend to like the most are often made by French (or sometimes Spanish) artists and has that weirdness about it that you described simply as \"French\" in a thread somewhere (don\'t remember if it was here or at Wyrd).

This mini (sculpted by Allan Carrasco and painted by Jérémie Bonamant) is a good example of what really floats my boat.

:D fantasy for me, I was always interested in unicorns, dragons, fairys etc. I would also add \"others\" to my list too, can\'t beat hasslefrees ladies or some of the odd funny ones from long age.
